Tilting her head back Fawn momentarily allowed herself to soak in the bright sunlight. Small waves on the sandbar rose up against her calves creating goose bumps. The soft ocean breeze blew off the warmer Methri waters. Fawn inhaled deeply sporting a bright smile. Fawn loved it when they were in the southern Methri waters during summer. The humid heat allowed her to stripe of the cloths that made her feel too restrained. She was able to feel the breeze and the sun kissed her skin in a balancing dance between the two. Fawn tried to push her mind from the thought that they would be entering the current to head north for the cold season.
“How nice to see you are enjoying yourself,” BLIM said throwing a small metal scraper into a bucket.
“I have already finished,” Fawn said without opening her eyes. “The faster I got done, the faster I could enjoy and go mineral hunting.”
“To me it seems you are being a beach bum,” BLIM replied dryly as he waded through the water. Covering his eyes from the bright sun he inspected her work. Not surprisingly, she was right. Fawn had finished her section of duty well enough.
“Shall I grab TORT to help us?” she asked with a giggle. Another giggle followed when BLIM clicked his tongue in annoyance.
“That droid may be able to detect minerals easier, but his personality needs work,” he paused pointing a finger at her, “and no. No. You are not allowed to work on him.” Fawn threw him a fake pout and kicked her foot up throwing a spray of clear water towards him. The tiny droplets caught in the sun creating a glitter curtain. A smile broke on his face as his thin lips curled up. Only to quickly fall. The gold links shone bright on her arms as the danced against her skin and beads in her dark hair shone in contrast. The summer forced Fawns freckles to spread and deep across her skin.
“The probability of you getting sun-sick is eighty seven percent higher when you do not cover your skin properly,” BLIM said shaking his head. He gently pull on her cover and rechecked his hat so the wind did not pluck it off his head.
Fawn puffed a breath pushing her head from her eyes and glanced down at her arms. Her freckles deepened from the hours spent in the sun. Her cloth shorts and ragged top left much of her skin bare. “I think you are just jealous your skin does not have beautiful spots such as mine,” she said teasingly showcasing her arm.
BLIM tugged on his long sleeve shaking his head. “I am quite sure that I do not envy the chances of you catching a disease from the hot summer sun.”
“When do we leave for the Jyep?”
“We still have a few hours,” BLIM said after a moment of calculation. “Don’t wonder off too far. The bar drops deep a few meters out.711Please respect copyright.PENANAG7brbeN64H
“Perfect,” Fawn mumbled.
Slowly, she waded through the crystal clear water. Bright fish swam between her legs. Waves rushed up her thighs as she made her way towards deeper water. Face scrunched in concentration, Fawn carefully kept her keen eyes on the ocean floor waiting for the bright red shine from a rare mineral she needed. It had been years since her last find, but it was this exact location. Fawn would no give up.
Fawn blinked a few times instead focusing on the water around her legs. The waves were not longer rolling off from open the ocean. Instead the water was still. She looked down confused and caught a shift on the surface. Straining her eyes on the shadow that slipped on the surface, Fawn caught the image of a young woman. Hard grey eyes bore into her as if they were making eye contact. The women’s mouth moved but no words escaped her water prison. Fawn gasped in shock and jostled the calm water. Her focus broken, waves continued once again. Mouth open in awe Fawn searched the shallow water for BLIM.
Quickly she rushed towards him. Waving her hands high above her head she attempted to catch his attention. BLIM was humming softly to himself sifting sand stopping only to inspect a small rock before casting it back into the ocean.
BLIM glanced in her direction hearing her yell for him. Tilting his hat up he watched as Fawn slipped and fell into the water. Decided it would be better and less bothersome, he choose to ignore her.
Fawn grumbled to herself under her breath as she sat up in the water. “Fine, you’ll just call me crazy anyway,” she whispered. Leaning back into the cool water, Fawn relaxed her body. Floating suspended in the shallow water, Fawn watched clouds float above her. A flash of bright gold hair full of dirt filled her vision. The women’s terrified expression haunted her thoughts on replay. Fawn raised her hand into the air imaging herself reaching out to the other woman. She felt the urge she needed to help her. A breeze brushed against her hand and Fawn let it fall back into the water.
“Hey BLIM?” she asked after she found herself drifting towards him.
“Hmm?” he responded not lifting his gaze from his sifter.
“What’s the scientific possibility of receiving a vision?”
“The chances of seeing a vision?” BLIM said. Fawn caught his attention. Fawn sat up in the water and bobbed with the ebb of the waves. She nodded her head serious. “The sun frying your brain is a possibility.” Fawn did not look amused.
“Nothing has been scientifically proven that vision exist outside of people who exhibit symptoms of psychological diseases. Even then those vision are only recorded as to what the people say they saw. There is no way to prove what someone saw or did not see. Some argue that those who have psychological diseases are simply more susceptible to outside influences that could effect their brain functions.” Fawn slowly formed an “O”.
“Why do you ask such a thing?” BLIM asked eyeing her carefully.
“Thought I saw something in the water,” Fawn said.
“You thought you saw something in the water?” BLIM repeated. Fawn bit her lip and shrugged. BLIM was about to further investigate when he heard water sloshing towards them.
“Hello Moss,” Fawn said with a smile.
The man in question scratched his head. “Any chance I can catch a ride with you to the Jyep? I need a few maps and return a few.”
“Sure,” Fawn said jumping out of the water. Taking this as a chance to avoid BLIM’s interrogation, she escaped towards Moss.
