The stench of the cavemen fills my nostrils, giving me a headache and making me unable to think of a way out of my predicament. The light from the phosphorous had all but died out, and the only way that the cavemen, who know these caves like the back of their hands, let alone me. The walls have just narrowed severely, making more of a horizontal shaft through the rock than a spacious cave that is liveable. It is a good thing that I am not claustrophobic, or I would be in a large amount of trouble. The shaft opens out into a slightly larger opening. Here, my carriers halt and hefted me off of their bony shoulders, dropping me on the ground with no sense of gentleness at all. They turn around quickly, walking away briskly; the glow from their torches getting fainter and fainter as they get further away until they eventually turn a sharp corner and the light disappears altogether. I try my radio again. No luck. I would be surprised if the radio waves would be able to be received through the vast amount of rock that is lying between myself and the outside, and freedom, let alone through the portal. I am alone in an unexplored place, and completely in the dark.559Please respect copyright.PENANABzE1DGTGQA

I wake up with a jolt. It’s still utterly dark around me. As I wonder what woke me up, a sharp crackling sound echoes out of the darkness. The striking red receiving light glowed dimly out of my radio. “Sampson, do you copy,” comes out of the radio, barely intelligible because of the enormous amount of static. I can only just keep myself from cheering out loud, just in case the sound echoes to the cavemen. My team must have come through the portal after me. I had forgotten about the presence of our agreement, that if I had not had contact with them saying that everything was alright (this was before I had come through the portal, and before we knew that the radio would not work through the portal), or came back through the portal, the rest of my team were going to come through the portal and try to rescue me from whatever fate had befallen me.
