“Listen Johonaton and listen well. I am old and you are young. I will die soon but you hopefully won’t. There is a lot that you still need to learn and not nearly enough time to learn and master them. My spirit shall always walk beside you and guide you when you can’t guide yourself, “the old man said this with a sorrowful tone. Johonaton sighed shaking his head and edged the bowl closer. He shook his head and said, “My time has come to go boy.” This time Johonaton spoke up and said, “Grandpa come on. Merias is not that bad of a cook. She knew you had a cough and wanted to help you out,” he edged the spoon towards his resilient grandfather. “Besides what are you talking about being too old to continue on? Everyone in this village has their children super young. Your only 50 years old. Even YOUR grandpa is still alive. Now eat!” Jonathon finally was able to shove the spoon into the elder’s mouth. Immediately the man starts flailing around and pretends like he is dying, screaming that he was poisoned and about to die. Tataku ran into the hut with his younger brother Remsu and looked around for danger. Johonaton dismissed the guards assuring them that everything was fine. “Grandfather stop. Stop it! Stop your childish nonsense at once! You’re so obnoxious that Tataku and Remsu came in here thinking that there was a danger.” His grandfather mimicked him and rolled his eyes which made Johonaton laugh. His grandfather placed his hand over his heart and looked him in the eyes and stated very seriously, “What makes you think I was kidding and ACTING foolish? Merias food will be the CAUSE of my death!” He sent a sheepish grin his grandson’s way but he wasn’t even looking at him anymore. “So my cooking will be the death of you, huh Valerian?” Valerian jolted and turned around to see the tall woman staring back at him. “Merias a pleasure to see you. Please sit down. Ahahaha…ha ha…ha. No?” Johanaton stood up and walked out the door, but not before he signaled his grandfather a “Good Luck”.
