With a burst of smoke, the two lost souls opened their eyes to a new world. Vitae's roar still echoed. It pierced through the black cloud, revealing seas of crystal ice; and fields of blinding white, crisp, untouched snow. A blizzard smothered the air with thrashings of hale, and a freezing wind which bit at the skin.
"Where the hell have you taken us?" said Pura. Vitae stared at her.
"I don't know... The next world, maybe...," said Vitae, looking off into the distance, his stance firm and gaze unyielding as his mane still burnt strong. Pura stood trembling, her fur froze sharp like nails and her paws fell numb. "We should get somewhere warmer, we could die out here."
They both pushed through the thick, relentless storm. They walked aimlessly, looking for a salvation from the cold. The snow soon grew deeper than they could bare, Pura's chest now brushing across the top. Each step turned to a leap, for Pura, as the snow now landed too high; each soft, gentle flake became part of an impenetrable wall. Pura turned to look for Vitae, but the path she fought through had vanished into the storm. She slammed into the wall, she clawed and charged at it until she fell to the ground in exhaustion, he eyes closing as she stared towards the path she came.
Suddenly, the wall began to crack and water leaked through. A growl bellowed through the cracks and Vitae ploughed through, his mane burning like a malign ruby. He looked down at Pura and his mane fell back to a pure, gentle white. The blizzard grew stronger by the minute and the wind pushed back Vitae's every step. Nothing stopped him. Relentless and iron-willed he fought on.
After hours of trekking, Vitae found a cave. It was a shallow cave, which could barely fit him and Pura but it was his only hope. It was nicely sheltered from the punishing wind and the ground lay untouched and, more importantly, dry. Vitae carefully lay Pura's body at the back wall of the cave, to keep her from rolling into the storm whilst she slept, whilst he chose to lay next to her. The storm raged on one side of Vitae, and Pura lay safe and quiet on the other. He looked out the cave one last time, a worry falling upon his face.
In the morning, Pura woke first. She stretched out her front legs and curved her back as she let out a weary yawn before lying back down to rest. As she set her head down on her front leg she noticed Vitae's paw. She watched him as he lay peacefully; his mane a shallow, dancing wisp of white light and his fur flowed elegant and soft. She smiled as she lay her head down on her legs and leaned to rest closer to him. Her paw still, under his.
