After waking up to a parched throat and a splitting headache, I blinks to my surroundings. And I have a moment to doubt whether the thousands of elephants tromping my head has messed with my own sanity.
Because, seriously, why am I sitting in an office at the police station, in front of a scary looking policeman? If eyes could kill, I’d be dead ten times over already. So instead I stares at the bag of rose petals, banana peels and an empty Vodka bottle on the desk. Wondering again what on earth all these get to do with me?
I try to recall my memory.
I remember I was having a bad day. Breaking up with your girlfriend was not fun, thank you. So I brought along the wasted bouquet in my arms, straight to the first bar I saw by the street, numbing myself with alcohol like a total loser — when a man came and sit next to me at the counter.
“Hey kid,” he picked up one of the fallen rose petals on the counter. “Had a bad day, huh?”
I glanced to him and those roses on the counter, frowning before gulping down another mouthful of Vodka. “I don’t get the girls, I really don’t.”
He just chuckled. “You are still young,” he said. “You still have many years to go. You will meet someone better, believe me.”
That was not what I wanted to hear. I didn’t want to meet someone new ever again. Why bother? So I ignored him in favour of my broken heart and the Vodka bottle in front of me. Burning sensation in my throat made me feel better, as my mind pretty much stopped functioning afterwards. Things got a bit fuzzy after that.
I think he said something. And then he brought out — wait, a hand of bananas? I stared at the bananas in front of me. What did the man say again? Did I miss something?
”Let me tell you a secret,” he shook his head in a way showing that he was taking pity on me. He leaned in and said. “Alcohol doesn’t make it better. Bananas does.”
Even though I was pretty drunk at that point. I was pretty sure I gave him a glare that reserved only for men madder than me. He must have noticed my unconvincing look, because he went on to shove the bananas to me. “It is said that it moderate you serotonin level in your brain,” he explained. “And you shouldn’t waste your body away like that.”
I didn’t know why but there’s a lump in my throat, painfully blocking all the words that I was about to say. Maybe it’s the concern in his words, or I was just too far-gone to care about anything else. Or maybe I was just — lonely...His words touched me. And before I could stop it, tears were streaming down my face and I could do nothing but lowered my head.
Because I knew, what he said, is probably true. I just didn’t want to care anymore, hating myself more than anything for the broke up.
I grabbed one banana and peeled it. The sweet taste made my tears spills. He patted my back gently as I kept finishing the bananas, unable to stop both the tears and the sweetness, which somehow made everything feel better and bitterer.
I couldn’t remember much afterwards. The exhaustion and consumed alcohol took over. But vaguely, I think I heard the man asked me for my wallet, saying that he would help me pay, seeing that I surely couldn’t walk without kissing the floor. I probably just pointed to my bag next to my chair.
He rummaged through my bag. And he took out the wallet, and...something, before he told me that he was helping me to keep them, just in case. I nodded.

He did hail a taxi for me. And told the driver the destination.
”Can you take him to the police office,” he said apologetically to the driver. “Well, I think the guy’s has been robbed but he doesn’t remember anything...”
“Sure thing,” the driver replied.
Wait, robbed?
I am robbed?
When?
“So, are you conscious enough to tell me your name yet, Mr.?” The gruff voice of the policeman brings me back to the present, he is clearly annoyed. “You have been sleeping in the past hours. And we would appreciate it if you can let us file you report as soon as possible.”
”Uh, right. Sure.“ I stammers. “Sorry, have you seen my bag?”
He just gestures to the table. “That’s all the things we found in your bag.”
The rose petals, banana peels and vodka bottle.
I drag my hands across my face and sighs.
Life sucks.
It is the most weird experience I has in my life. I can’t tell is it good or bad. Things can not go worse than this. But for now, I think the man is right. Banana makes things better.
”Are there any chance you guys got bananas here?”
I guess stranger things happens.
