快要出國升讀大學的萊絲莉常常想起一枚金色通花的特別指環，卻完全記不起它的主人，到出了國，才重遇上它的主人—麥可。

原來麥可以前是爸爸的下屬，曾在她家裏有過一段快樂的時光，後來調職了，跟萊絲莉一家再沒聯絡，她便漸漸忘記了這個跟她玩得很開心、很疼愛她的大哥哥；到她出國讀書，去的城市正是他身處的地方，二人開始了新的關係。

在學校，她認識了富家子弟大衛並成為情侶，但日漸發現自己跟大衛的性格完全不合，並對跟麥可的情感覺得迷惘。她跟大衛分手後，麥可因工作壓力而生病，萊絲莉則因幫麥可的忙而違反逗留條件而被迫遣返，不能再來求學。

那枚金指環不但是麥可的傳家之寶，對萊絲莉也別具意義，可是她遺失了，對他們的關係有前所未有的打擊。沒想到一枚金指環會那麼重要。沒有了它，兩人就注定分開？
