A/N: HOLIDAYS ARE COMING UP!!!! Sorry, I love the holidays and I'm super excited for this year! Anyway, that's why I'm writing this special edition of my piece The Imagery of Emotion. Because I feel so festive! So without further ado, let us get on with it!
Festivity is a bright, multi-colored emotion. It looks like the colors that erupt from the trees, then flutter to the ground, creating a patchwork of oranges and yellows and reds. The table with family and friends sitting around, passing food from person to person, hands joining as grace is said. It looks like a maze of maize and children following each other blindly through it. The sight of festivity is the first white flakes of snow drifting to the ground and forming a shimmering layer of ice and crystals, which sparkles and refracts the light into a rainbow of colors.
As seasons change, the feeling calls to mind the sounds of Christmas music played before Thanksgiving, much too early for any practical person, even those who enjoy such merry tunes immensely. The crunching of fallen leaves under boots, which turns into the crunching of a fresh layer of glittering snow tell me that soon the holidays will arrive. Festivity sounds like the loud conversations and laughter around the dinner table and the squeals of excitement from children.
Festivity is something you can inhale. It smells of brightness and earth, like fallen leaves. It smells of fresh pumpkin pie and candles. It's the smell of a fire burning late through the night and of pine trees lit up in the living room.
It tastes gingerbread and hot cocoa. The taste is like fresh baking and home cooking with a variety spices. The marshmallow Santas covered in chocolate, sweet and soft, remind me that celebrations are nearing.
Festivity feels like a knit sweater, cozy and warm. It feels like the hugs of relatives you haven't seen since last year. It's the feeling of a slight chill in the air, a nipping sensation that gives way to a biting cold that freezes your breath and squeezes your chest. It's the feeling of steam wafting up and warming your frozen nose, of knitted caps pulled over ears in a vain effort to keep them from reddening and freezing.
A/N: I'm incredibly into the autumn season, but not winter as much, so that may have been evident from my writing. I also celebrate Christmas, so sorry to the non-Christian readers for the Christmas details if it's something you're uncomfortable with. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed my enthusiasm over the holidays in this. I tend to get a little carried away when it comes to autumn and spring, since those are my favorite seasons.
