Maybe it's just who they are, they were built to have some kind of external repellent that it is supposed to keep away anyone who gets even remotely close to them. A mechanism that makes them stir up trouble whenever they're "threatened".

It gets old, though. You try to make things better and show them that you can be trusted, but after a while it's hard not to give up. You get tired of trying to break down a barrier of questioning looks and unspoken hardships.
