As I came back to reality, I noticed I had already come up to the gate of my building. I slowly entered and saw our security guard sitting and half dozing off. I made a mental note of talking to him in the morning about night safety, I was too tired now.
I got into the lift and pressed the neon yellow 5 button. As I moved up I couldn’t stop thinking about the man and Alina.
That’s what her husband called her.
I stepped out of the elevator and started making my way towards my apartment when I heard a huge thud from the opposite house.
What was that?
Did someone fall?
Out of pure concern, I went and impulsively rang their doorbell, which I regretted right then.
The man, creepy as usual half opened the door, just enough to see his face.
“Yes?” He enquired
“I’m sorry for bothering, but I heard a really loud noise and just wanted make sure everything was fine.”
More so if she was fine.
“Yes everything is ok, thank you for your concern.” He smirked and started to close the door, but I wasn’t done yet.
“May…….Uh May I speak to Alina then?” If she was in that state
The man looked at me or better yet glared at me and screamed out ALINA.
I jumped back a little, clearly, he wanted to intimidate me, but I wasn’t leaving until I made sure she was ok.
“This lady wants to make sure you’re fine, talk to her and come inside.” He ordered, took a last look at me and left, inside.
Alina came to the door and said whatever she thought necessary to get rid of me as quickly as she can.
Clearly, his intimidation techniques work on her.
As she closed the door and I made my way to my flat, I thought.
I knew now, something was terribly wrong.
It was the middle of summer, nobody wears a full sleeved turtleneck and scarf at home this time around do they?
Unless they have something worse to hide underneath
As I opened the door to my house I glanced a last time knowing that someone was watching.
Watching their last chance go into its home.
