"So," Jean started as he played with his leftover airplane food, "why are you headed to Carlstown?"
Jean watched as Leigh popped a grape in her mouth. She started to smile. "Just for a layover. I'm actually on my way to Maravier."
"Family matters?"
"Nope."
The word rolled off of Jean's tongue so smoothly that he couldn't help himself. "Boyfriend?" And as soon as he said that, he tried to act nonchalant by taking a sip from a glass of water.
She was now looking at him with sparkling eyes and — something that looked like — an all-knowing smirk. "I wish."
Jean choked. He was caught off guard with her answer, betting his life that she would deny it since that was such a Leigh thing to do. Nevertheless, he was doing backflips and fist-pumps in his head because he, too, wished that she was his.
