I took my walk out into the deep woods, as I often did. The many unusual plants and aninals living there made it a great place for foraging unique ingredients for my various potions.
Many say I Iived there to carry out dark experiments, but this was vastly untrue. You may then surmise that I enjoy nature, but you would only be half right. I liked the solitude more than anything else. Practicing magic and potion-making takes a lot of concentration, and going it alone was my best bet. Unfortunately the small village reflected the small mindedness of the villagers therein.
People assume that because they do not understand magic that it is inheritantly bad. Many share this ignorant belief in the unknown, and I tired of dealing with it every day.
Now, the fact that I live in the deep woods probably gives you other misconceptions. First of all, the woods are deep but not dark so I suggest we get that out of the way. Most days it's actually vibrant and full of life. Yet, this particular day proved different.
I had gathered some Latherian Toadstools and Sentient Artichokes when a breeze came through. I paid no mind at first, as the deep woods I lived has plenty of windy days just as many places do.
Yet once I put the last of my artichoke into my satchel, I felt a gust of wind that was quite different. This wind was very cold, much colder than wind should ever be in the summer. Not only was the physicality of it different, but something else about it stirred some primal instinct within me.
I stopped in my tracks, focusing my mind solely on my surroundings in order to place the peculiar sense of dread. The wind blew again, and the coldness went through my very soul, setting off internal alarms As the wind whipped through the trees, my fears were confirmed when the gentle chirps of birds and other bright sounds came to a screeching halt. Within moments, the forest had become deathly silent. A lonely shiver wracked me through the bone.
My thoughts furiously traversed my memory for whatever this phenomenon could be, for there was a very unnatural quality to this dark wind.
"Dark wind.. that's it!"
The vast studies I was engaged in had paid off, and I knew this was the ominous Black Wind. Only another with great power and nefarious intent could have created it, and only one with nearly equal power could stop it.
If I did not act soon, my very homeland would soon be transformed.
The Black Wind howled, and I threw my hood upon my head for some vain defense. Soon, the dark whistle of the wind changed, warping into a malevolent voice that called my name.
The Black Wind was beckoning me, for it was hungry and desired me first.
