"For the girl atop the hillside, salvation seemed impossible. Her family were in the city. She had no money, no possessions. Nothing except the clothes on her back and the horse she rode on. As the sun rose above the darkened city and the full extent of the damage became clear, the girl turned her horse away. Away from the life and death in the city of Pompeii."
