There were roads that I thought led nowhere, and yet a few weeks later, I was there walking them to places I never knew I needed to go. There were people who I thought were a threat, and yet a few weeks later, they helped, they taught, and they wished me nothing but the best. There were words I never thought I would need to say. I said them anyway. And what I experienced, I grew. I became. I matured. Life was a matter of lenses and focus. Life was never what it first seemed and never what it seemed to end at. Something, a certain detail, always persisted. The story always eventually changed. The story, as random and dull and confusing it was, given time had deepened and enriched.
Sometimes we don't get to choose what we suffer or how long. But sometimes we do. Sometimes we don't get to choose who we love or how long. But sometimes we do. I looked on at people who gripped the good and the bad, so tightly like onto a burning rope or the razor edge of a blade, with eyes desperately shut, with mouths spewing curses at God and everyone around them and mostly at themselves. They lost track of meanings, of beginnings, of life, of health, of love. The story was not always one we could control, just like passion was not always one we could save.
But life moves on. The world resumes. You can resist it. You can denounce faith in it. You can choose to do nothing, not one bit. You can care less. You can hate. You can get sick. You can die. But what then? Life will never let go of you. You will be back. You will be stronger. Wiser. Better. What then? Why? The details unfold, the secrets emerge, and you are that something new under the sun. That is passion. I don't need to tell it to anyone. I don't need to demonstrate or prove it. It will happen. It happened. It is already happening.
Passion comes for you. And somehow, miraculously, in the aftermath of war and hell, you realize you are ready. You realize in awe and euphoria that passion is growth. Passion is infinity. Passion is the book cover. Passion is the background music. Passion is not yours. Passion comes for you.
