Mitchie made her way over to the rotting corpse lying on the morgue table. Cole stood beside her, holding his nose so he could no longer stand the smell of putrid flesh. Mitchie smirked at him as she started to poke the flesh with her gloved hands. Cole looked like he was going to be sick. Baby.

Cole suddenly spoke up, "I don't think the Red Lotus clan did this."

That was the smartest thing Cole had said all day.

"Yup. You're right. It's not their style." Mitchie replied. "What do you mean?" Cole asked. Mitchie stared at him. "Isn't it obvious?" Cole shook his head.

"The Red Lotus clan are known for leaving virtually no evidence, apart from their trademark blood soaked lotus flower. First off, they wouldn't leave a rotting corpse nearby because it provides too much information. The bites mark along the chest and neck area are jagged and black. A vampire as skilled as the RL clan would be swift and would only need one, neat bite to finish the job. This guy took several attempts to finish the job. Sloppy, if you ask me. So much so, that the victim managed to cause him a bit of damage, which is very rare. I know this because of the blood and skin under his nails. It's too dark to be his own. So, I'd guess it was a demon. Probably a Grade 2 by the looks of it. Need I go on?" Cole looked at her in amazement.

"OK. So, how did he end up looking like this? And why now? Why not finish the job and take his body with him? Mitchie raised her eyebrows at him.

"Good question. This body looks a few weeks old. But it's not. It's only been changed a day or two. Obviously the demon didn't inject enough of its venom to change him. He got his soul OK. That's usually what they look for. But why didn't they pick his flesh clean. That's usually what they do to their victim's. Unless he reacted badly to the venom. Or maybe he wasn't human to begin with." Mitchie started to pace around the room, trying to think of the most reasonable explanation for this man's death.

Suddenly an eerie rose arose from the table. "Or maybe, I was already dead." The morgue man gave a toothy smile. "Oh, crap. I hate zombies." Mitchie sighed and brought out her gun.
