The two figures sprinted down the Metro tunnel. The combat suits the two wore were a dark blue, with carbon skin that felt like a reptilian pelt. The suits were skin tight, seemingly used for diving. They wore no helmets.
One of the figures, a slim, young woman with shoulder length brunette hair like a dark chestnut. She was unarmed, only carrying a bag full of precious goods. Her partner was carrying a sidearm.
Kain ran with pistol in hand. He had black hair that was cropped close to his skin. He had a stocky upper body, with thick calves. A body built for endurance.
The two continued running, not knowing how they were going to get away. They seemed to be gaining distance from the officers, but that did nothing to put their minds at ease.
As they rounded their last corner, a stairwell came in sight. Escape.
"Yennifer, take the stairwell!" Kain breathed. Yennifer sped up, moving in front of him.
A glint flashed from the shadows, Kain fainted a shout when the gunshot echoed through the tunnel. Yennifer cried out as blood shot from her abdomen. She slammed into the ground.
Kain cried in anguish as he lifted his pistol. He aimed for the snipers chest. They both fired.
The sniper clutched at his neck as a LC round stabbed into his jugular. Kain clutched at his ears as the bullet ripped past his head, temporarily deafening him.
Kain ran to Yennifer's side as the booming began to stop echoing. She was pale, blood ebbed out if her chest as Kain placed his hands on her wound.
"Yen..Yen!" She slowly locked her eyes on his face. Even in the flesh of her mortality, she seemed as beautiful as ever. Her face was as white as the moon, sweat glistened on her forehead, echoing her beauty as she sparkled in the Metro's lighting.
"Kain..please." she reached up and touched his face, he held up a hand to hers, enclosing their fists. She was beyond help, there was nothing he could do.
"They're up here!" Footsteps echoed in the back of the chamber, the police were catching up.
"Babe, it's gonna be alright. Here." He undid the strap from her shoulder and took the money bag from her. "Now I need you to do something, take this," he handed her a grenade, the old pineapple grenades from a distant century. "When those pigs catch up to you, pull the pin."
"Kai.. Kai. Don't let me go. Bring me with you." She gazed into his eyes, for the first time in their bond, she couldn't read them.
"I'll never let you go Yen, never. We'll see each other soon." Kain released her hand and began to lift himself up, jogging away from his nightmare.
"Kain, Kain!" She cried out in pain. Kain stopped running and looked back. "Please don't leave me, please..please.." she kept begging.
He turned his head and sprinted down the Metro.
