I am sitting on the bathroom counter while my mom cleans each gear with a damp cloth. It tickles just like I remembered it. I would laugh making my gears spin and she would smack the shit out of my human leg. To my delight it was just like that today. She closes my chest cover and tightens it.
"Look at my beautiful girl all grown up. You're going to be 18 this year! Oh, I've missed you so much," She whispers while holding my face in her soft hands.
"I missed you too mom. That's why I came and brought dad here, so you won't ever have to miss us again."
She furrows her eyebrows. "You're not doing anything crazy like that anymore. Breaking into area 51, are you insane? Not to mention sneaking into the Bellorium. That place is area 51 and the White house combined! I just hope you didn't anger Neurounic. You don't need the leaders of two planets going after you. He isn't after you is he?"
"He was but I don't think he is anymore," I lie.
"You don't think huh," she repeats skeptically. "Tell me Xen did he release you or did you escape?"
I shift nervously on the counter. "I escaped but only because-" I pause. 144Please respect copyright.PENANApMMnmErUbO
I have some of the best programming in the galaxy yet I cant come up an excuse that will satisfy my mother.
Her eyes widen in fear. "Did they hurt you? What did Neurounic do to you? Why did you come here? I know you know something."
"They didn't hurt me, no one did. I came here to reunite our family and nothing else." 144Please respect copyright.PENANAahgN9HXXTX
I hold my breath as I wait for her response. She stares at me hard for a moment. She sighs, takes up the towel she was using to clean my gears and leaves the bathroom. I let out a breath of relief.
So I can successfully lie to her, I think to myself before following her out.
Downstairs my mother is in the kitchen, and my father is on the couch with the biggest mechanical grin plastered on his face. He pats the space next to him.
"Guess who is holding the first underground Human- Mechanical Alliance Meeting for the first time in 12 years," He announces as excitedly as a robot can.144Please respect copyright.PENANAShexc9eZTF
"Oh my gosh! Really? I've heard so much about these legendary meetings. The biggest supporters of the Artificial Intelligence movement attend. Plus it's all done incognito which makes it so much cooler and feel much more rebellious," I gush as my father stands there triumphantly.
"Why thank you Xenobel. I'd hate to toot my own horn, but yes my gatherings are a big deal. Lifeforms from all over look forward to this. I contacted my people and they are spreading the word to all the right people as we speak," he informs me.
I gasp as my eyes widen. "Can I go?" I whisper excitedly.
"I doubt your mother would let you, even though it would be a great opportunity to learn about your heritage and get involved with the cause. If I say yes it has to be our little secret," he replies with his volume lowered.
I hear a small whirring as he extends his pinky.
I grin as I raise my platinum digit. Since metal isn't the most bendy material we clink our two fingers together.
"5 nights from now we have a date. Until then I do have a few tasks you can help me with. These also shouldn't be mentioned to the fleshy parental unit," He explains.
I nod while trying to contain my excitement. Secret assignments and illegal rendezvous are my kind of fun. My mother calls us in the kitchen for dinner. We eat spaghetti while my father sips on some oil my mom bought for him. It's good for his gears and he enjoys it. She clears her throat.
"I guess this goes without saying but you two do have to stay in the house. You can't risk being seen," she pauses and glances at me, "any more than you already have. I have to work tomorrow and I was wondering if you were going to be alright being alone. I could take some days off," she suggests.
"No sweetheart that is not necessary. We'll see you when you get off. Xenobel and I will be fine and stay hidden," he assures her. "Though I would appreciate if you could pick me up a few things. Just some lighter fluid, AA batteries, AAA batteries, and a couple packs of glow sticks," my father requests as if that is a normal shopping list.
My mother blinks a few times. "Alright then. Sounds like you two are going to have quite the party."
"Just a few things to keep us busy," he replies.
We exchange glances and my wires tingle. I don't know what he has planned but I know it's going to be epic.
