"Sweetie... Your father and I have decided to get a divorce"

Going back on it now, I could say this is where it all started. With such simple, life destroying words.

"Mommy? I don't understand..."

Hearing it as a 7 year old boy, why would I understand?
Well maybe I didn't, not in that moment of pure innocence. But I didn't have to wait long... The world was quick to show me the true meaning of her words.

It started with the fights.

"He's a seven year old boy for goodness sake! What am I supposed to do when I can't afford to feed him? I need time to get on my feet!"

"What? So you think I will have the time and money to look after him better than you can!?"

Then the move.

"Darling, we have decided to send you to your grandmother until this is all finished..."

The lies.

"Can I come home now daddy?"

"Sorry sweetie, with the new family and your mothers new house, I don't think now would be the best time."

The pain...

"Hey Jake! You have mail! Hmm, looks like it's from your mother... Aye! It's a wedding invite!"

To me, it all just became a blur. Hate and rejection, that's all I could bring myself to feel.
What was I supposed to do after 9 years of only hearing their voice's over monthly phone calls?

They had moved on from me.
I was no longer a part of their family...
No longer their child.

It was just me and my grandma, until it was just me... And then it was 'us'... Me and him...

I became his world, and he forced my world to be nothing but him.
