在不远的未来，人类之间发生了毁灭性的世界大战，全球人口剧减至十份之一，文明一度进入了长时间的黑暗期。不少野心份子趁机割地称王，互相侵略，在废墟般的地球上，人类再次经历军阀战火之乱。就在第一次星际入侵者之战后，人类终于觉悟，放下同族之间的斗争，科技突飞猛进，积极合作建设并打造巨大飞船，终于建立了横跨数百光年的星际王国『银河联邦』，打开了星际贸易之路。人类联同数股外星势力，组成『星际联盟』，一同守护着银河系。

路易斯．柏高是联邦军训院的优等生，在毕业试的那天，他碰到极为不可思议的事情，展开了他保卫联邦的旅程。后来他还认识了美丽的军训院生丹娜．纳森和冷酷的泛西斯．波鲁夫，一同捲入了一场足以颠覆宇宙的斗争当中，他们不但成为了斗争的中心人物，甚至还窥到宇宙起始的秘密……
