Shishiru is a familiar-seeming planet. It's inhabited by hairless apes who've built skyscrapers and drive cars and go to school and laugh and smile and cry. With normal people like Miriam Summers and her friends Retta Aram and Temera Kachou, it's a planet whose only apparent differences from more familiar inhabited planets is its cooler climate and the three rings wrapping around its equator.

But there's something else about Shishiru, something that sets it apart from other planets you may know about, and it's a constant reminder to its citizens that the clock, it keeps on ticking.
