Now I hear the sounds

Of an approaching siren

Flashing lights

Traffic pulls over to the side

When my mind can tell a siren wailing

It automatically thinks the worst 

Are my family and friends OK?

Text messages left undisturbed

Eyes wide open

Much to the confusion of passers-by 

Mouth feels dry

But deep down inside

I hide away the tears of bad memories gone by

Yesterday was hard

Today might be worse
