"Can I come in?"
"I don't know, can you?"
Cursing quietly, the vampire backed away from the open doors foiled yet again by the English teacher's pedantry. It had become a game after the first few nights, when she had managed to turn him away with words alone.
And she was a pretty morsel, young and dark of hair and eyes, fire in her stance and a clove of garlic in her small hand. He wasn't sure he actually wanted to eat her anymore, though he wouldn't say no to a small taste. She was just, such a nice challenge! Something hard to find in these Post-Twilight days.
If he ever managed to get up to Washington, Stephanie Meyers was on his list.
"So Alucard, how's the hunting tonight?" she asked, a wicked gleam in her eyes.
Yellow eyes narrowed playfully. "It's not Alucard," he sibilantly swore, "and you are my first stop of the night."
"Well thank you Edward, I'm honored." The clove of garlic bounced from hand to hand now, the scent filling the air as she leaned against the doorframe. He'd yet to give her his real name, but fair's fair, she hadn't either.
He shook his head at the new guess, thin and bloodless lips pulling away from sharp teeth in a predator's grin. The young woman had seen sharks who'd looked more cuddly. "And I would be honored to receive your name," he sighed, all is predatory attention fixated on her fair face.
"Yours first Bill."
"And ruin our little game?" The bloodsucker laughed, teeth flashing in the house lights. "Why should I give you the advantage?"
"And why should I give you any power over me, Jareth?" He glared at that one; he was no fairy! The young woman arched an eyebrow at his lack of response before glancing at her watch. "You know, if you're not trying anymore, I have papers to grade still."
"I could just look you up." She turned back to her late night visitor at this, hand on the door. The vampire was serious this time, a pale hand gesturing towards her car. "Looking up your license plates or your address would give me your name. It would be easy."
She smiled after a second, teeth flashing in the porch light. "But where would be the fun in that?" she asked, closing the door slowly.
The vampire smiled back, hunger in his eyes. "Where indeed."
