“Good hunting up there.” Jodie set down the radio and put the bus into gear She drove up the road into the prison. The doors swished open as she pulled alongside the area where Alister was hidden. “This is you Alice.” Jodie grabbed her sister’s hand as she hopped off the bus. “Please be careful.”
Alice watched in horror as a hungry bat descended on a guard and sank its bleeding talons into his back. She cut the keys from his belt and disappeared inside, keeping her shotgun ready.
Jodie didn’t like the idea of her sister being alone, however, they both had a job to do and time was short, so she followed the road around the main complex and dropped Wade off near the cave cells where dozens of prisoners pressed themselves against the bars in order to see what was going on. The lone remaining guard took cover behind a rock and fired two shots from his handgun that barely missed Wade as he approached. Without cover, Wade’s only option was to rush the guard. He pounced around the rock and kicked the guard into the iron bars where a prisoner locked his arm around the guard’s neck, choking him out in seconds.
“Who are you friend?” said the prisoner as the guard slid to the ground and Wade unlocked the door.
“I’m from Haven.” Wade moved on to the next cell. “Go to the armoury. It isn’t locked.”
The sound of machine guns rattled from the mess hall and Wade hoped that nothing bad had happened to Tom – they couldn’t afford for these prisoners to reach the armoury and find it locked.
