“Oh mama! Where are you?” Such were the sad words of a bereaved child, whose mother lost her life while she was going back home. She was mercilessly killed by a pack of stray dogs; this is a big problem in my countryside. In this essay, I am going to argue why these dangerous animals must be killed so that my people will live in peace.
It is true that animals need protection . Many associations and organizations have been set up to achieve this goal. They have managed to save the lives of many wild and domestic animals; they deserve to be rewarded for this amazing job. No doubt, it is inhumane and unfair to mistreat animals as they have the right to co-exist with us. However, when they begin to do more harm than good, we must act immediately; such is the case of stray dogs.
Pariah dogs threaten the whole community in various ways. First, they attack passers-by; one day, a woman was riding her donkey back home when a pack of ferocious stray dogs attacked her. They killed both the woman and her beast. Her relatives were dumbfounded when they heard the sad news. Second, stray dogs wreak havoc on people’s property; they destroy crops particularly when they are mating. They also spoil the beauty of the countryside by dirtying gardens and fields. My parents complain that a pack of dogs have turned their gorgeous orchard into a mess. Moreover, these animals do not hesitate to kill livestock.
Third, they infect humans with mortal diseases particularly rabies; for instance, my friend’s father-in-law died soon after his puppy had bitten him; he did not know that his pet was infected by a stray dog. Besides, these creatures are one of the many causes of road accidents; a good many people lost their lives because of stray dogs. Last but not least, the latter disturb people’s peace of mind; they bark and fight all night long; they make people think about moving somewhere else. Hence , the gravity of the situation.
To conclude, this phenomenon threatens the stability of my countryside. The government is not doing enough to end it. It is high time we eradicated this malady so that people especially children can live peacefully. We must act without delay for it is “better safe than sorry”.
