I entered my office exactly at 12 AM, prime time for death registrations, though my employees had yet to arrive. As their boss, I must set an example for all who work here so I couldn't afford to be late.
Just as I set down my case of souls, I heard an unnatural sound in Death’s Main Office—my office. Slowly, I moved towards the desk where someone was hiding.
“Who is there?” I asked in the dangerously low voice that was required for my job. Shoes scuttled and a body shifted beyond my sight.
“Show yourself,” I commanded. “Be you a thief or a soul, trying to escape your bonds to Death?”
I turned the corner and froze as a young boy (dressed in what I believe is called a hoodie and jeans) thrust a knife through my pseudo body. I looked over his head for a glimpse of his file—certain quirks come with being the boss. I let out a sigh and pulled the pseudo knife out.
Thanatos must have left his soul out over the weekend, if young Tom here managed to solidify this much.
