White Darkness
Sometimes the person who tries to keep everyone happy is the most lonely one.
There was a boy. He sat all alone in his room, curled up in a ball. His knees were up to his chest. And his arms were wrapped tightly around his legs. He was all alone in his dark room. The only thing that surrounded him was darkness. Pure, white darkness. He thought to himself:
I'm not the boy that I was. I belong to the voice in my head that tells me, you are falling away. From yourself, and from everyone else.
He lay there for what seemed like an eternity. But in reality it was only an hour, or so. Then he hears a knock his door, and voice calling out his name.
"Yūutsu! Yūutsu- kun!" the girl yells. "Come on out dinners ready!"
Yūutsu stirs slightly, but continues to lay there.
"Seriously! I will break this door down if you don't hurry up and bring your butt downstairs!"
Finally, the boy moves from his spot on the floor to the mirror on the wall. He stares at his reflection.
Man, I really need a haircut. He thinks to himself as he swooshes his bangs to the side. He then proceeds to his closet and grabs a hoodie. The hoodie looks massive on his thin frame. Then he walks over to the door and takes a deep breath.
Here we go. Just act natural, act as if you're just fine and nothing is wrong. He tells himself to calm down.
He turns the doorknob and silently opens the door. Phew, she isn't out here. But just as he sighs with relief, out of the corner comes a girl who is slightly taller than him. She runs up to him and gives him forceful slap across the face.
"Ow! What was that for?!" says the boy as he falls to the ground in pain. "That really hurt."
"Good! I hope it did, do you know how long it took you to leave your room!? You are going to make mom and dad worry again, you idiot!" yells the girl as she places here hands on her hips.
"I'm sorry. I just didn't hear you, I had my headphones on."
"Well, if that's the case, then I will just have to take those away from you again."
"No! Please don't! I promise I won't ever do it again!" begged the younger sibling.
"Ugh, fine whatever. Let's just go eat dinner before mom grounds both of us."
The girl is Yūutsu's older sister and her name is Murasaki. She is 17 years old, two years older than her younger brother, Yūutsu. She is the bossy older sister type, so that sure takes its toll on Yūutsu. She is harsh with Yūutsu because she truly cares for him. And she wants to keep him in check, but also because she doesn't want what happened to him in the past to happen again.
About a year and a half ago, Yūutsu got really depressed. It wasn't just because he hardly had any friends and everyone at school bullied him. But, it was also because his older brother had just died. His older brother was Takashi Kanbara. He was a very kind and gentle person, who really cared for his family and friends. Especially, his younger brother Yūutsu Kanbara. They were always very close to each other ever since they were young.
Everything in the Kanbara family's life was always fun and happy, everyone always got along. But ever since that day when Takashi got killed in a train accident, things have never been the same. Yūutsu always stayed locked up in his room, and he never really talked to anyone. Not even to his family. The very few friends he had left him because he always ditched school. His friends felt bad, but their parents did not want them around a delinquent who was always getting into trouble.
His Mom, Mrs. Kanbara was so shocked about the whole situation that she couldn't even work. The one person in their family that stayed strong throughout the whole ordeal was Murasaki. She had helped her parents stay on their feet and overcome this sad time. She even got them to go back to work and just when things were looking up for the family. Yūutsu tried to commit suicide.
