蜀國諸葛亮丞相死後，姜維繼承了他的遺志，發動了一次又一次的北伐，可是連年征戰令蜀國勞民傷財，大將凋零。為了補充足夠的人才，姜維上表劉禪推行三年一次的全國性選拔人才大典，「蜀魁爭霸」。
