虞市的暴雨夜，後端工程師林夜誤入一間不存在的午夜便利店。

店門木牌缺了三個字，貨架上的商品沒有品牌與價格，鏡中的他卻先一步露出笑容。守店老人遞來一瓶盛著星光的水與一張二進位收據，只說：「歡迎回來。第一百零一局，該落子了。」

從那一刻起，林夜開始看見藏在都市表面下的另一層世界：以怪談獵食的影子、竊取命運的氣運之子、寄生於人心的系統，以及一群在文明毀滅前反覆甦醒的修行者。他以工程師的方式拆解規則、尋找漏洞，也在蘇清雪的劍與一段段前世警告中，逼近百世輪迴的真相。

所有人都以為林夜正在反抗棋局。

直到他們發現，棋局裡每一條逃生路、每一次背叛、甚至每一位救世主的誕生，都留著同一個人的手筆。

真正坐在棋盤另一端的人，從來沒有離開過。
