民國十四年，江南商埠——霧浦鎮。

這座因濃霧聞名的水鄉，百年來流傳著一句怪談：「霧起不尋人，霧散少一魂。」

一具無頭屍體，揭開沉睡二十年的豪門秘聞。

一封染血的舊婚書、一把從未生鏽的青銅鑰匙、一座沒有人敢靠近的戲樓，以及一樁官方早已結案的滅門血案……

留學歸國、精通刑偵與法醫學的新式偵探沈墨白，受好友之邀來到霧浦，本想短暫停留，卻在第一晚便捲入命案。

隨著調查深入，他發現：

所有死者，都與二十年前同一個夜晚有關。

而真正的兇手，似乎一直活在每一個人的身邊。

只是……

他從未以真面目示人。
