He stepped out of the car, anxiety and a strange fear tightening his chest. His face clearly reflected the tension and apprehension he felt inside. Struggling to steady his emotions, he moved forward, carefully trying to control the storm of feelings within him.
As he arrived, he asked his friend, “Why are you smiling?”
His friend replied casually, “You won’t believe it. When you hear this, you’ll be jumping with joy.”
Confused and a little disturbed, he frowned. “Why are you talking like a madman? What happened? Just tell me!”
“Where’s the doctor?” He suddenly asked in a louder voice.
“What are you even saying?” His friend replied, astonished, and uneasy.
“I can’t believe it… I didn’t expect it either,” his friend continued, still in shock. “But someone donated blood for her without telling anyone.”
He blinked, completely stunned. “What? Are you serious? How… who would do that?”
His friend explained, “The doctor told me her blood type is very rare. It’s not easy to find. This is the first time someone donated to her without prior notice.”
He shook his head in disbelief. “How could someone donate blood for her like this? How did you all manage to put someone else’s blood into her system, idiot?”
“You should actually be happy about this,” his friend replied in the same teasing tone.
“Where’s the doctor?” He asked again, stopping in his tracks. No answer came, so he raised his voice, “Doctor! Where are you?”
“Sir, please don’t shout here,” a nurse approached and said calmly
Hearing the commotion, the doctor approached them. “What seems to be the problem? You are disturbing the discipline here,” he said firmly.
“To hell with your discipline,” he snapped, barely controlling his rage. “Whose blood did you give to my fiancé? I will file a complaint against all of you! Did you even ask her?” His voice trembled with anger as he forced himself to speak.
The doctor remained calm. “For us, a patient’s life is precious. Every single minute matters. Why would we wait for permission? If we had not given her that blood, she would not be alive beside you today.”
Hearing the doctor’s reassuring words, he finally paused. The tension in his shoulders eased slightly.
“I’m sorry,” he said quietly.
“It’s alright,” the doctor replied. “Is there any other issue?”
“No… " You may go,” he said.
His mood was still unsettled but significantly improved from before. “I don’t know who that person was,” he murmured, “but I would have fallen at his feet in gratitude.”
“Honestly,” his friend replied, “today I truly believe that there are still incredibly kind-hearted people left in this world.”
He was deeply embarrassed, unsure how he could face her in person. Meanwhile, a call came from her house.
“What will you tell her family?” His friend asked.
“I don’t know… I guess I’ll have to tell them,”He replied.
Taking the phone from his friend, he put it in his ear. “Hello?”
“Hello… what’s wrong with your voice?” Her sister asked, surprised.
“I’m speaking on behalf,” his friend explained quickly.
“Oh…” she said softly. His voice was so beautiful that she couldn’t help but marvel.
“Where is she?” Elle asked in a questioning tone.
“At the hospital,” he replied.
Suddenly, a noise came from her side, as if the phone had slipped from her hand. “Hello? Hello? Are you listening to it? Hello?”
Elle didn’t know what had happened to her. She was at home, and panicked over her. Tears ran down her face. What should she do? Should she go to the airport or the hospital? Should she tell Mama and Papa, or would that only worry about them? Her mind raced with a thousand thoughts at once.
Finally, she called her mother. “Hello, Mama,” she said, her voice trembling. When will you be here? The flight is arriving soon.
Her mother said,
Elle paused, unsure how to explain. Her mother sensed immediately that something was wrong. “Something happened… tell me, I’m getting worried.”
“Mama… she… she had an accident. He’s in the hospital,” she whispered, her voice breaking.
“Mama, are you listening to me?” Elle said, her voice trembling with worry and tension.
After a moment, her mother replied, “What are you saying, dear? Why are you joking like this? What happened to my flower-like daughter?” Her voice trembled with concern, and tears welled up in her eyes.
“Mama… I don’t know. I just got a call from his friend,” she stammered.
“You must reach the hospital immediately. Papa is coming directly, too. Keep me updated.” Her mother said,
Her mother, sobbing, said, “I don’t even know what condition my daughter will be in when she reaches the hospital,” and then she hung up.
Without a second thought, she grabbed her bag, snatched up her phone, picked up the house keys, and rushed toward the door. She made sure the main gate was locked behind her before heading straight to the hospital, her heart pounding with worry and fear.
“I want to see her,” he said to the doctor in a pleading tone.
“You cannot meet her right now,” the doctor replied calmly. “Once she regains consciousness, you may see her.”
“When will she wake up?” he asked impatiently.
“In two to three hours,” the doctor answered.
He stared at the doctor for a moment, anger burning in his eyes, then turned and walked away. No matter what, he wanted to be the first person she saw, but he wasn’t allowed. That thought filled him with rage.
He walked over to his friend's.
“I told you they wouldn’t let you meet her,” his friend said quietly.
“Shut up,” he snapped angrily.
“Go and change your clothes,” his friend advised. “If her family sees you like this, what will they think? It won’t leave a good impression.”
“I don’t care,” he replied harshly. “Just keep your mouth shut.”
“I’m only saying this because you’re about to be a son-in-law,” his friend said calmly.
He paused, thinking for a moment, then sighed. “Alright, fine. I’ll be back, but you’re right here. If you move from this spot, I’ll break your legs,” he warned.
“Okay, boss,” his friend replied, nodding reassuringly.
Her sister’s heart was pounding violently in her chest. Sweat covered her forehead even though the weather was moderate. Anxiety had left her in a terrible state because all she knew was that her sister was in the hospital. Carrying a heavy heart, she finally reached the hospital. Only one thought echoed in her mind: she’ll be okay, won’t she? How did all this happen? Just this morning, she was so happy.
From a distance, Johnny noticed her approach. She looks exactly like her, he thought in surprise. This must be her sister.
He walked toward her. “Excuse me,” Johnny said gently. “Are you her sister?”
“Yes,” she replied, her voice trembling.
“I’m her university friend. I was the one who spoke to you on the phone,” he explained.
“You?” She asked, trying to recall.
“Yes, when you called back the second time,” he said.
“What do you mean?” She asked, confused. Before he could explain further, she interrupted, her patience running thin.
“Forget all that. Where is my sister? Is she okay? What happened to her?” she asked anxiously, fear and worry clear in her eyes.
His friend pointed toward a room, and without asking a single question, her sister moved forward in that direction. From behind, his friend called out to her, “Please don’t worry. She’s fine.”
Hearing this, her sister turned back, gave him a faint smile, then faced forward again and continued toward the room. With a heavy heart, she slowly opened the door and stepped inside. Seeing her sister lying in that condition made her chest tighten with emotion. She sat down on the chair beside the bed.
Her sister suddenly gripped her hand and began to cry.
“What happened to you? How did all this happen, my dear sister? Please come back to your senses… I’m here now. I’ve come to you.”
Hearing her sister’s voice, her fingers began to move, and slowly, she started to regain consciousness. Gradually, she opened her eyes. As her eyes opened, a loving smile spread across her sister’s face.
She felt someone holding her hand. Her eyes were still not fully open as she struggled to focus.
“Is that you?” She whispered weakly. “Are you okay? You didn’t fight with them after I was gone, did you?”
Her sister couldn’t understand what she was talking about.
“It’s me,” she said softly. “Your sister.”
With effort, she opened her eyes fully. After a few seconds, the blurred shapes became clearer.
“What are you doing here?” She asked weakly. “Where is he? How did I get here? Call him…” she said, her voice breaking with pain and exhaustion.
“Who should I call it? There’s no one here except me,” her sister said softly.
“Where am I?” She whispered in pain. “Why does it hurt so much? Why do I feel so weak? I need to go to him, what if he hurts himself?” She said with great difficulty, her voice trembling.
She wasn’t making sense. She wasn’t thinking, not even realizing that her sister was sitting right in front of her. She kept speaking without pause. At that moment, she cared about no one, not even herself. The only person on her mind was him.
“Who are you talking about?” Her sister asked, confused. “The one who brought you here?” She pointed toward the friend she had met outside.
Suddenly, she cried out in pain. “Ahh… ahh!”
“What’s happening to you?” Her sister asked in panic, rising from her seat. “I’m calling the doctor right now!”
She suddenly lost consciousness.
“Sister! What happened to you?” Her sister screamed. “Doctor! Doctor!”
Hearing her cries, the doctor rushed into the room.
“What happened?” The doctor asked quickly.
“She was talking… and then she fainted,” her sister said in a panicked voice.
“What?” The doctor replied. “Let me check her out. Please step aside a little.”
“Just relax,” he added reassuringly.
“Yes… please,” her sister whispered.
“What happened?” Johnny asked, having rushed inside after hearing the noise.
“I don’t know,” her sister said helplessly. “I was talking to her, and she suddenly fainted.”
“Don’t worry,” the doctor said calmly. “Everything is fine. Patients often lose consciousness again after regaining awareness. Just make sure you don’t say anything that puts pressure on her mind or forces her to think too much.”
“Okay… thank you, doctor,” her sister said softly, relief mixed with fear.
He was driving at full speed, just as he always did whenever he was in a hurry. Suddenly, his phone rang.
“Shit… who’s calling now?” he muttered in frustration.
When he saw the caller's ID, his expression changed. Dad? Why would he be calling right now? He disconnected the music and connected the call to his earbuds.
“Hello Dad. How are you?” He spoke.
“Where are you?” His father asked sharply, ignoring his greeting.
“Dad, I.” He stopped mid-sentence, unsure of what to say.
“I’m asking you where you are,” his father repeated angrily.
He immediately sensed that something serious was wrong. His father had never spoken to him in this tone before.
“Wherever you are, come to the university immediately,” his father said. “I’m here at your university.”
Now I understand," he thought.
“Are you listening to me?” His father snapped.
“Yes, Dad. I’m coming,” he replied.
He was deeply obedient by nature; he never disobeyed his parents. Even though he didn’t want to face those people again, how could he refuse his father? No matter what he felt, his father’s words were an order he could not ignore.
Melina had regained consciousness, yet she seemed distant and lost, her eyes drifting again toward the door, as if she were desperately waiting for someone to enter. A faint smile touched her lips each time she looked that way, only to fade moments later.
“Oh, my child… what happened to you?” Her mother said softly.
By now, both her mother and father had entered the room.
“Dear, how did all this happen?” Her father asked, his voice heavy with concern.
Her mother pulled her into a tight embrace. They were meeting after so many days, and in such a condition that her mother began to cry uncontrollably.
Seeing her mother in tears, her own heart overflowed.
“Mom, please don’t cry like this. I’m fine,” she whispered.
“How can you say you’re fine, my child?” Her mother sobbed. “Look at the deep injury on your head…”
“I won’t let this go,” her father said, kissing her hand gently. “Whoever did this to you will not be spared.”
“Dad, no one did this to me on purpose,” she said gently, trying to calm him. “What was meant to happen… just happened.”
Before her friend could say anything, her father spoke, as if he had already understood everything.
“You’re the one who brought her here, aren’t you?”
Her friend froze for a moment, words failing him.
Her father’s expression softened. Turning toward him, he said, “Thank you, son, for taking such good care of my daughter. I’m ashamed I should have been here myself.”
The room fell quiet, heavy with gratitude, relief, and emotions that none of them could fully put into words.
“I’m not the one,” his friend said quietly to her father.
Her father looked at him with a gaze full of suspicion.
“I am,” came a calm voice from behind.
“Her father turned back, and in that moment, it felt as though his breath stopped.”35Please respect copyright.PENANABWoKimknRS
