Team Phantom/Team Erik all the way!
He's a sympathetic character, especially in the 2004 movie. No, I'm not a brainwashed phangirl who thinks he's better than Raoul because he'll kill for me. He's a complex character who needs love and was desperate. I think he can change if we want him to. That's what fanfics and fictional stories are for! With fiction, anything is possible. In reality, people like that rarely change and if they do, it takes a really long time. But if you want him to change for good in fanfics, there are some here on Wattpad. I'll recommend a few in a later entry. As for his love of music, that's another thing I love about him. A lot of phans think he doesn't change or isn't supposed to, but I'm a proud phan who thinks he can if that's what we want. I believe in forgiveness and second chances, even when it comes to Erik. He was also sorry for his transgressions. I mean, he had a breakdown at the end of the 2004 movie. I forgave him when he felt sorry. I think Christine kissed him at the end of the 2004 movie to show him love and that saved him! I wouldn't love Erik or agree to be with him until he changed. Erik is not a psychopath or as evil as we make him to be. I don't like it when phans tell other phans, “Erik is not a misunderstood soul. He's manipulative, mentally unstable, homicidal , and a stalker.” I prefer to see him not only for what he was (a monster), but what he can be (a good man). He is both a monster and a broken, misunderstood man who just wants to be loved and accepted.

I didn't like that he was controlling and manipulative, though.
In Erik phanfics, if Erik's transgressions are justified, I will make a comment. For example, the writer has Christine make the following statements to the reader or another character: “I know Erik killed two people, but he did so in self-defense.” “He was/you weren't intentionally trying to harm anyone.” “Maybe the people he killed deserved it.” Like I said before, I will leave a comment refuting statements like that and give a suggestion, like having Christine acknowledge that it was downright murder and it was wrong, but say that she forgives Erik. Other than that, if the story is good, one little justification won't ruin it for me.
