The sun rose. The usual alarm blared across the room. Not entirely pleasant, yet not entirely unpleasant. Koels cooed. Branches shook. Yet what part of it did she hear?
“Ay. Get up. You got school. Ay. Get up. You got school. Ay. Get up. You got school.”
That she heard. She opened her eyes just to close them again. She’d rather go blind than look at her sister.
“Ugh. Another day of getting scolded awaits me. Unlike some smart person who gets favoured all the time,” her words slowed deliberately on the last three words, making sure that Rina understood what she meant.
Siblings, not exactly the nicest are they? Well, it’s pretty weird. They get to bully you and enjoy your suffering, but they still protect you when others try to hurt you. That’s quite sweet. (I actually don’t know because I’m an only child.)
It was 15 minutes later, the 1st bell chimed, not exactly a bell but that’s what they call it. She was on time. For once. The reason, however, was not so ideal.
“Heyyyyyyyy Chris, mind giving me a little… ‘advice’ on your homework?”
“We’re not even in the same class. I don’t know what homework you get.”
“Aerbiceeeeee, do you perhaps have the answers to my… very specific questions?”
“Sure. Take it. My math is inaccurate. Change the answers a lil.”
The 2nd bell chimed, again, not a bell, just a recording. Miss Smitterlynn walked in with her heels clacking against the floor while holding the attendance record board, basically a clipboard with some papers printed with students’ names.
“Alright then. Hand in your homework while I eyeball it and take attendance. Wait. Is that… Ryla? You’re being punctual for once. And you’re not blaming the bus!” She exclaimed.
Ryla didn’t react to it and simply handed in “her” homework.
“Wait. Is that… Ryla? You’re handing in your homework? Maybe you aren’t completely hopeless after all!” She remarked.
Once again, it was ignored. But Miss Smitterlynn didn’t mind much, as it is indeed rare for a student who never cared to finally “care” about something for once. For some, it may seem questionable, but to others who have given up hope on them since long ago, it seemed like a miracle and the joy of the fact overshadowed the suspicion of their actions.
