Prologue
What if, one day, you discovered that the world had developed a glitch?
Not through war, not through disaster, nor any manner of dramatic endgame. But a glitch far more minute, quieter, and infinitely more unsettling.
An impossible figure appearing in the background of a photograph.
An unsent broadcast signal hidden within radio static.
A pseudorandom number repeating itself when mathematical improbability dictates it never should.
A single experiment yielding two entirely contradictory sets of empirical data.
At first, humanity would dismiss it as a coincidence. Then, a system malfunction. Finally, a mass hallucination.
Because acknowledging a flaw in the fabric of reality is far more terrifying than doubting one’s own sanity.
Yet, the history of science has reinforced a single truth across the centuries: the people of every era have firmly believed that the world they perceived was absolute reality.
The Earth is not the center of the universe. Time is not absolute. Matter is not continuous. And the very act of observation alters the outcome. The immutable truths of yesteryear invariably reveal themselves to be mere fragments of a much grander reality.
And so, a question arises.
What if—one day—two contradictory observations hold true simultaneously? Two observers witness entirely disparate realities. Two worlds, each possessing its own flawless causality, its own complete memories, its own undeniable empirical evidence.
If that happens, who is wrong?
The year was 2013.
A seemingly mundane anomaly quietly manifested in an obscure corner of the world. Initially, it was nothing more than a string of digits. Later, a photograph. Eventually, more and more people began to notice the exact same discrepancy.
And when a select few attempted to trace the answer to its source, they realized— They were not chasing a phenomenon. They were chasing a fracture.
On the other side of that fracture, does another version of you exist? Another version of history? Another version of the answer?
No one knows.
Because everyone who has ever truly drawn close to it ultimately discovered an even more unsettling truth: The truth was never hidden away. It has been there all along. It is just that... We are fundamentally constrained to perceive only one facet of it.
Welcome to The Phase.
Where observation does not guarantee reality. Where memory does not guarantee the past. And perhaps, the universe has never been singular.
