The room stopped reacting like a training space.

It now reacted like a living algorithm.

Every breath, every shift in weight, every glance between players was being processed somewhere unseen.

The Substitution Matrix still floated above them.

But it wasn’t static anymore.

It was updating in real time.

Daiki saw it first.

A flicker beside Reiji’s value.

REPLACEMENT COST: HIGH → FLUCTUATING

His eyes narrowed.

“…it’s changing.”

Reiji noticed immediately.

So did the third player.

And he smiled.

“Oh…”

A soft laugh.

“So even you aren’t stable.”

Reiji didn’t look away from the matrix.

“I never claimed stability.”

A pause.

“I claimed necessity.”

Daiki stepped slightly forward.

“That’s exactly why it’s shifting.”

Reiji glanced at him.

Daiki continued.

“Necessity isn’t absolute here.”

A beat.

“It’s conditional.”

Silence tightened.

The system reacted.

CONDITION SHIFT DETECTED

The ball pulsed once.

Then again.

Faster.

Like it was unsure which reality to commit to.

A player suddenly shouted:

“My value just dropped!”

“I’m going UP—why am I going up?!”

The third player stretched slightly, almost bored.

“This is why I like systems.”

A pause.

“They panic when they lose certainty.”

Reiji finally moved.

Not toward the ball.

Toward Daiki.

The air shifted instantly.

Space reorganizing around him.

Daiki didn’t step back.

He held his ground.

Reiji spoke low.

“You’re influencing the fluctuation.”

Daiki answered immediately.

“I’m correcting interpretation bias.”

A silence.

Reiji narrowed his eyes slightly.

“So you’re saying the system is wrong.”

Daiki shook his head.

“No.”

A pause.

“I’m saying its input weight is unstable.”

The third player clapped once.

Slow.

Deliberate.

“Careful.”

A faint smile.

“You’re starting to talk like you can control it.”

Daiki turned slightly.

“I don’t control it.”

A pause.

“I expose it.”

The system reacted violently.

INTERPRETATION CONFLICT ESCALATING

The Substitution Matrix flickered.

Then—

A new line appeared.

TOP VARIABLE INSTABILITY: REIJI KAGAMI

Reiji’s eyes sharpened instantly.

“…what?”

Daiki froze slightly.

Even the third player’s smile widened.

“Oh.”

Reiji looked up at the display.

For the first time—

his expression wasn’t composed.

Not fear.

Not anger.

Something closer to recalculation.

The system continued.

REPLACEMENT COST DEGRADED

A pause.

Then—

STRUCTURAL RELIABILITY: COMPROMISED

The room shifted.

The ball pulsed harder.

The third player spoke softly.

“So it begins.”

Reiji turned slightly toward him.

“You’re manipulating this.”

The third player tilted his head.

“No.”

A pause.

“I just removed your assumption of permanence.”

Daiki stepped forward quickly.

“This isn’t random.”

He looked between them.

“It’s reacting to perceived instability in control hierarchy.”

Reiji’s gaze sharpened.

“And that instability is you.”

The third player smiled faintly.

“Partly.”

Then he looked at Daiki.

“But mostly him.”

Daiki froze slightly.

“…me?”

The third player nodded.

“You don’t reinforce structure.”

A pause.

“You question its legitimacy.”

Silence.

Heavy.

Reiji spoke quietly.

“That’s why it’s destabilizing me.”

Daiki didn’t respond immediately.

Because he realized something worse.

If questioning made structure unstable…

Then truth itself was a threat here.

The system flashed again.

PRIMARY VARIABLE RE-EVALUATION REQUIRED

Suddenly—

The floor markings returned.

But different.

Not roles.

Not lanes.

Now only two labels appeared above the center of the room.

ANCHOR CANDIDATE: REIJI KAGAMI

DISRUPTOR CANDIDATE: DAIKI OKORO

The third player laughed softly.

“There it is.”

He pointed between them.

“The system finally simplified you.”

Reiji exhaled slowly.

“So it reduced us to binary function.”

Daiki’s eyes narrowed.

“No.”

A pause.

“It defined how it perceives us.”

Reiji looked at him.

The third player interrupted.

“And perception is reality here.”

Silence.

Then—

The ball began to roll slowly toward the center again.

Not randomly.

Not forcefully.

Intentionally.

Like it was choosing the moment of collapse.

The system spoke.

FINAL SELECTION: INITIATED

A pause.

Then—

ONLY ONE VARIABLE WILL REMAIN STABLE

Reiji stepped forward.

Daiki stepped forward at the same time.

The space between them tightened instantly.

Not physically.

But conceptually.

Like the system was preparing to delete one of them from relevance.

The third player leaned back slightly.

“This is the part I was waiting for.”

A faint smile.

“Show me which one of you reality keeps.”

The ball stopped.

Right between Reiji and Daiki.

Perfect equilibrium.

For one moment—

everything was still.

Then—

Reiji spoke quietly.

“If I fall, structure collapses.”

Daiki answered immediately.

“If I fall, structure becomes blind.”

A silence.

Then the third player whispered:

“Then let’s see what survives.”

The system activated.

RESOLUTION PHASE: ACTIVE

And the room—

finally moved again.
