二十一岁到三十岁之间，每个人都有一次向“系统”提出交换的机会。

你可以用属于自己的东西，换一样最想得到的东西。金钱、时间、记忆、健康，甚至寿命，都可以成为代价。可是系统从不保证永恒。它只负责完成交换，不负责替你守住结果。

我曾经以为自己没有什么非得到不可的愿望，直到看见她为了租房奔波、疲惫，却仍然笑着说“总会有办法的”。于是，我用二十年寿命，换来了两百万，买下一间离大学不远的旧公寓，再用一个看似合理的理由，把房间低价租给她和她的朋友。

从此，我拥有了一个可以靠近她的身份。

房东、朋友、偶尔一起吃饭的人，维修水管时会出现的人，散步时听她抱怨日常的人。那些平淡和安稳的日子像一盏很小的灯，安静地找亮了我的生活。

但是，这样的日子能持续多久呢？

故事背景设定在新加坡，因此文中关于房价、租金、收入与寿命价值的估算，也都以新加坡的现实环境作为参考。
