My good eye snaps open, immidietly scanning my surroundings to check weather that women is still here. I breath a sigh of relief as I realize she left the room, making the mistake of leaving me and my four-year old sister, Lariste alone.
I spring up from the bed, the naive women provided me and Lariste. The first thing I do is search the room for any valuables I could sell. I open the bedside table to find an empty drawer. I check the closet next, spying an expensive looking shawl. I slip it over my shoulders and take in the warm and fuzzy wool enveloping my body. It's a bit small for me so I take my backpack from under the bed and stuff it inside.
Before I slip out the door to continue my search I glance over at Lariste. She is sleeping peacefully, she begged me not to steal from someone so kind as to let us stay the night but I knew I had too. It is the only way we can survive in this world.
As I tip-toe down the hallway and peek my head in different doorways until I spot the kitchen. As soon as I arrive at the entrance I start pocketing everything I can find. I shove silverware into my bag as well as bread rolls, water bottles, and a wallet someone left next to the stove.
After I have thoughly raided their kitchen I pop into a room decorated for a little girl. The walls are such a bright pink it hurts my eyes and a real wool rug takes up most of the floor space. In the corner of the room is a canope bed with pink bedding and a little girl in the center of it. She can't be much older then Lariste. For just a moment I find myself jealous. Jealous of the mom who can provide so much for her daughter while I resort to stealing just to feed my sister everyday. I panic for a second as the girl stirs in bed but thankfully stays asleep.
I snap out of my jealous trance and open up the girls closet, and- holy moly! This girls closet is twice the size of our house back when we lived with grandma. I don't spot anything particularly eye-catching to me until I spot a long sleeved emerald green dress. The skirt flows down just below the knees and the neckline is decorated with what I expect to be real emeralds. I think about pocketing it to sell, after all it could easily go for a few hundred bucks but after imagining the absolute ecstacy Lariste would show just by seeing this dress I know it would be the perfect gift for her. I throw it inside my backpack and gently shut the closet door as I exit.
The next room I search appears to belong to an older kid. I glance around the room, eyeing the dark blue walls and the smooth wooden floors. Once again I spot a walk in closet in the corner of the room and upon father inspection I conclude this must be a teen boys room. Eventually I spot the large bed sitting in the middle of the room and my breath catches in my throat as I realize it's empty.
Oh no...Oh no no...Someone is still awake...And then I heard it. The sound of a dark laugh coming from right behind me. I went rigid at the sound.
"What would aunt Mei think of her little charity project? Finding out that you're a thief and a liar."
Slowly I turn around to face him and my breath is knocked from me again. He is SO handsome. He has fashionably messy and dark hair, such a deep blue you'd mistake it for black. And his eyes in stark contrast to his hair are a bright emerald green. His skin is dotted with freckles and two adorable dimples frame his crooked smile. His fashion is impeccable as well. Of course he could afford such luxuries. Even his pajamas look like expensive silk.
Another dark chuckle breaks my trance. "Listen lady, I know I'm handsome but let me stop you there, you just aren't in my league, sorry. Not to mention the whole stealing-from-my-aunt thing."
Suddenly all the admiration I just had for him vanished at his sarcastic words. "I'm sorry to burst your bubble but I am NOT interested in you. I don't have time for a relationship anyways. So please, get your head out of your ass and snap back into reality, pretty-boy." Oh my God! What did I just say? Why can't I hold my damn toung! I can't let him turn me in. What would come of Lariste if I'm gone.
"Whoa, you've got quite the toung on you young lady. I should turn you in right away. After all you stole from my aunt, cousin, me, and insulted me. But I might be a bit more generous if you help me out in return."
I bite down on my toung to keep from insulting him again and simply nod a long before finally speaking again. "What do you want from me?"
"It's simple really. I'll explain it all, but first you have some explaining as well. Tell me who you are, why you're here, and what you're intentions are. And I suggest you don't lie. I consider myself to be quite the lie detector and I would hate to have to turn you in. Imagine the things they'd do to you for stealing from such a well known and powerful family."
"Fine. My name is Arestine Rajimio. I am a 17 year old con-artist. I am here in an attempt to steal any valuables and some food and water. My intentions are just that. To steal. Nothing more and nothing less."
"Ok, and what about the girl? Based off her Appearence she is around four or five and I highly doubt a 17 year old is her mother like you led my aunt to believe. Though with your...appearence you can't blame her for believing you."
I bite my toung once more to stop the insults ready to fly from my mouth. "That girl, is my younger sister, Lariste Rajimio. She is four years old."
"Why is it you came to steal from us? Are you one of my stalkers perhaps?"
"For goodness sake, not everyone is obsessed with you. I simply needed the money and food. Lariste has grown too thin and I'm getting worried about her. That's it."
"Alright, I believe you."
"Wait really? Just like that?"
"I recommend you shut up and don't make me change my mind."
I fume with rage but stay silent until I finally gather the courage to ask the only question on my mind. "Now what is it that you want from me?"
"I want you to attend a dance with me. The Annuel Royal Dance For The Youth to be exact."
My jaw drops. "W-What?"
"Don't get me wrong, I could easily have any... presentable bachelorette if I wanted. I just get tired of those girls after a while. And I'm sure with a bit of a makeover you could look decent enough. I just want you to pretend to be my girlfriend for long enough to get me through this dance."
