Episode 1 — We Said We Were Friends

“You’re Annoying.”

Rain hit the university windows hard enough to drown out the professor’s voice.

Aiden Vale wasn’t listening anyway.

Instead, he sat in the back row of the lecture hall sketching random people in his notebook while pretending to take notes.

Most of the page was filled with sharp eyes, broad shoulders, and a permanent irritated expression.

Unfortunately, the face belonged to Rowan Mercer.

Again.

Aiden stared at the drawing for two seconds before aggressively scribbling over it.

“Obsessed.”

A voice from beside him made him flinch.

Kai Adler leaned over with the most disgusting grin imaginable.

“You draw him every day,” Kai whispered. “At this point you should just marry—”

Aiden elbowed him hard enough to shut him up.

“Die quietly.”

Kai wheezed dramatically.

At the front of the room, the lecture finally ended.

Students immediately started packing up.

Aiden stood, shoving his sketchbook into his bag—

—and accidentally collided with someone solid.

Coffee splashed onto the floor.

A heavy silence followed.

Aiden slowly looked up.

Rowan Mercer stared down at him with the exact expression people made before murders.

Black hoodie. Wet hair from the rain. Cold eyes.

Campus nightmare.

“You serious?” Rowan said flatly.

Aiden looked at the spilled coffee.

Then at Rowan.

Then shrugged.

“You were standing in my way.”

Kai, already sensing incoming violence, quietly backed away.

Rowan gave a humorless laugh.

“You crash into people professionally or is today special?”

“Oh, sorry,” Aiden replied. “Didn’t realize the hallway belonged to you too.”

That got attention.

Nearby students immediately slowed down to listen.

Rowan stepped closer.

Not dramatic. Not aggressive.

Which somehow felt worse.

“You always this irritating?”

Aiden crossed his arms.

“You always this in love with hearing your own voice?”

A dangerous silence.

Then—

“Okay!” Luca suddenly appeared between them like a man interrupting a bomb explosion. “Nobody fight before lunch. It ruins the atmosphere.”

Theo stood behind him carrying three books and looking terrified already.

“Why does this happen every week?” Theo muttered.

“Sexual tension,” Kai answered immediately.

“KAI,” three people shouted at once.

Rowan clicked his tongue and stepped back first.

“Move.”

Aiden rolled his eyes dramatically but moved aside.

As Rowan passed him, their shoulders hit.

Neither apologized.

Naturally.

By evening, the entire friend group ended up at their usual convenience store near campus.

Rainwater dripped from umbrellas piled near the entrance.

Vincent sat on the counter arguing with Noel about whether pineapple on pizza counted as psychological warfare.

Kai was recording Theo trying spicy ramen for the first time.

“This is bullying,” Theo coughed.

“This,” Kai corrected, “is cinema.”

Luca looked deeply proud for absolutely no reason.

Meanwhile, Elias quietly tuned his guitar near the window while pretending not to laugh at the chaos.

And in the far corner—

Aiden and Rowan sat across from each other in complete silence.

The others noticed immediately.

“Why do they look divorced?” Kai whispered.

“Because they fight like they pay taxes together,” Noel replied calmly.

Aiden ignored them and stabbed his ramen aggressively.

Rowan scrolled through his phone without looking up.

The silence stretched.

Then—

“You missed your critique class yesterday.”

Aiden blinked.

Rowan still wasn’t looking at him.

“…What?”

“You heard me.”

Aiden frowned.

Why did Rowan know his schedule?

“I was busy.”

Rowan finally looked up.

“With what?”

“None of your business.”

“Right,” Rowan said. “Probably sleeping through another deadline.”

Aiden almost threw his chopsticks.

“You know what? You’re actually unbearable.”

“And you’re dramatic.”

“At least I have emotions.”

“At least I think before speaking.”

“Oh my god,” Kai whispered while filming secretly. “This episode is insane.”

Then something unexpected happened.

Aiden reached for his drink at the exact same time the can slipped from his wet fingers.

Before it hit the floor—

Rowan caught it instantly.

Fast reflexes.

One hand around the can. Other hand gripping Aiden’s wrist automatically to steady him.

Everything went quiet for half a second.

Aiden looked down at Rowan’s hand still around his wrist.

Warm.

Firm.

Too close.

Rowan let go immediately.

The tension in the air shifted so suddenly even Theo noticed it.

Kai’s mouth slowly opened.

“No way.”

“Don’t start,” Elias warned immediately.

But it was already too late.

Because for the first time since meeting Rowan Mercer—

Aiden’s heart skipped in a way that felt dangerous.

And judging from Rowan’s expression…
