The sky over the city didn't just darken; it curdled. The bruised purple clouds swirled into a massive, rotating eye directly above the ruins of the Student Council tower. In the center of that eye, a platform of obsidian crystallized out of thin air.
The Void King stood at the precipice, looking down at the sprawling metropolis like a conductor surveying a failing orchestra. In his right hand, he held Koko’s Card of Speed. It no longer pulsed with the vibrant emerald of the wind; it bled a thick, poisonous violet mist that dripped onto the rooftops below.
"The silence has waited long enough," the King’s voice boomed, echoing through every street and alleyway. "Behold the final movement!"
He thrust the corrupted card into the air. Instead of a single explosion, a thousand jagged tears appeared simultaneously across the city skyline. From the rifts crawled the Shadow-Beasts—multi-limbed, eyeless creatures that looked like ink stains come to life. They didn't just attack; they began to "eat" the color and sound of the city, leaving gray, silent husks in their wake.
"There he is!" Konone shouted.
Blazing Fire, Blazing Ice, and the radiant Blazing Light streaked toward the tower. They moved as a coordinated unit, a blur of red, blue, and gold cutting through the swarm of monsters.
"Blazing Phoenix!" Konone roared, unleashing a wave of heat that vaporized a dozen beasts at once.
"Diamond Dust!" Yui countered, freezing a pack of monsters mid-leap so Mahiru could shatter them with a bolt from her Volt Sabre.
But for every ten they destroyed, twenty more crawled from the rifts. The King’s use of the Twelfth Card was creating a "staccato" effect—the monsters were appearing faster than the girls could possibly react.
"It’s no use!" Mahiru cried, her white-and-gold armor sparking as she parried a shadow-blade. "The rifts are opening at the frequency of Koko’s heart rate! He’s using her rhythm to flood the world!"
The Void King looked down at them, a hollow laugh vibrating behind his metronome mask. "Where is your President, little sparks? Where is the one who was supposed to keep the time?"
He raised his hand, and the violet lightning from the tower struck the ground between the girls, throwing them back. "Her song has been added to my collection. She surrendered her beat to the silence. And soon... you will follow."
As Konone struggled to her feet, she looked up at the King. He was right. Without Koko’s speed to bridge the gaps between their attacks, they were being picked apart. The city was drowning in gray, and the King was just beginning his opening act.27Please respect copyright.PENANAQX9fXZJAyY
