The term "quiet soldier" is one special operators from various branches of the U.S. military special forces (e.g., Navy Seals, Air Force Para Jumpers, Army Delta Force, Marine Green Berets, etc.). I have a family member who is a retired special operator (I'll respect his privacy by not describing which one or his rank) who led a mission behind enemy lines in which one of his troops was killed. He never talks about his career as a special operator with countless missions in some of the most dangerous places on earth where these best-of-the-best warriors are sent--almost always without fanfare, press coverage, or public knowledge. But on one of out many long talks when I asked about his career he relayed very briefly a story the essence of which I penned in a sonnet and now have turned into a song with my lyrics.
