Everyone in my family believes in the paranormal except for my father. When I was younger I always thought my father was right and that paranormal things just didn't exist. That was before I had my first encounter with something that seemed to real to be fake.
It happened when I was around seven or eight years old. I was laying in bed, my father turned off the lights and shut my door, the light from the moon being the only light I could use to see. I fell asleep and it didn't take long until I woke up again. I went to turn over onto my side so that I could look out my window when I realized that I couldn't move. I was able to blink but that was it. I lied there in my bed confused about what was happening and I began to panic once I noticed a dark hunched-back figure start to walk from my still closed bedroom door to my desk that was placed in front of my bed.
From what I could see, the creature looked like it was decaying. Skin was peeling off of its body and it had only a few strain of wire like hair that sat upon its head. The creature lifted its head and started to shuffle things around on my desk as if it was looking for something. Finally it lifted up my favorite childhood book and slowly turned its head towards me. Its face was twisted by a grin that showed sharp, rotten, yellow teeth, its eyes was like two bleached white saucers with small, black pupils in the middle of them. It finally looked away after what felt like forever but it only shifted its focus back onto my book. It began to wildly rip the pages from my book; It bit through the hard covers of the book and then threw the remains of it across my room where it banged loudly against the wall. It climbed onto my bed and for the rest of the night all it did was stare at me, as if it was considering on doing the same thing to me as it had done to my book. I ended up falling asleep against my will after probably and hour and a half of just staring at the thing on my bed.
I woke up to my mother turning on my bedroom light the next morning. It was time for me to get up and get ready to go to school. As I got out of bed though I made sure to jump as far from the edge of my bed as possible scared that something would grab my ankle if I didn't. I got on my knees and looked under my bed to make sure nothing was there and while I didn't find a monster, I did find the remains of my book laying there. I picked it up and sneaked it into one of the trash cans that sat outside my house. I haven't seen the creature again but I still get chills whenever I remember the way it looked at me and after several years, I ended up figuring out why I wasn't able to move while all of that happened. I ended up figuring out that I was in a state of Sleep Paralysis. When you sleep your brain basically shuts down your muscles to keep you from doing whatever you do in your dreams. Sleep Paralysis is where you wake up suddenly but your brain hasn't woken up any of your muscles, making them useless. During Sleep Paralysis people will begin to hallucinate things, one of the most common is the Intruder, which is basically a figure that just stands or sits somewhere in your room. While I ended up figuring out why I couldn't move, I didn't find anything that related to what I had experienced. While having things that shouldn't exist mess with stuff that exists in my plain of reality is now considered normal to me, since I have had several other experiences similar to this one, I haven't found any thing that can fully explain what had happened. And that is why I fully believe in the paranormal.
