Chapter 2: Chaos in the Classroom
After Alex introduced himself to everyone, he smirked sarcastically and plopped down right beside me. Leaning close, he whispered, “Hello, my baby.”
I could feel my blood boiling. “Fuckboy!” I snapped back, my face burning with anger.
He just grinned that annoying, sarcastic grin, as if he knew exactly how furious I was and it made me even madder.
After we all introduced ourselves, our teacher started the first lesson. I was deeply curious like, first day of school and already a lesson? I whispered, “Haysss…”
Why does school even have to start so seriously? I thought. Can’t we have, like, a chill day first? Or at least something fun before lectures? Ugh… this is going to be along day.
Alex leaned back in his chair and gave me that annoying sarcastic smirk again. “Looks like someone’s already bored,” he whispered, loud enough for me to hear.
I glared at him. “Shut up, fuckboy,” I hissed, my face burning red.
He chuckled softly, like he knew exactly how furious I was. “Oh, come on… it’s just the first lesson,” he said, still smirking.
I groaned and buried my face in my notebook. This is going to be a very long day, I thought.
But then I remembered I needed to study hard to make my parents proud. And, of course, I also needed to avoid that fuckboy.
I tried to focus on the lesson, scribbling notes as fast as I could. Every time I looked up, I caught Alex grinning at me, that damn sarcastic smirk still plastered on his face.
“Paying attention, nerdy baby?” he whispered, loud enough for me to feel my cheeks burn.
I slammed my notebook shut. “Shut up, fuckboy!” I hissed again. My heart was racing, partly from anger… and maybe a little from the fact that he always seemed to get under my skin.
But then I forced myself to focus I wasn’t going to let that fuckboy ruin my first day.
After discussing the lesson, the teacher said, “Okay, that’s our lesson for today. Any questions or clarifications?”
We all replied, “None so far, ma’am.”
The teacher nodded, then added, “Alright… if no one has questions, I have a question for you about today’s lesson.”
The class went quiet, shocked and curious to hear the question. But me? I felt confident. I already knew the answer because I had read this subject during the summer I was ready.
But then I realized… Alex was always teasing me earlier then I prayed to God that he would be the one the teacher called to answer the question.
I told myself, please let it be that fuckboy… because, honestly, I literally hated him.
Then the teacher scanned the class slowly. My heart was pounding. Please… let it be him, I whispered to myself.
“And… how about you? Alex Joseph Ford?” the teacher finally said.
I froze. Yes! Finally… it’s him! I thought, secretly hoping he’d mess up.
Alex smirked, looking straight at me, as if he knew exactly what I was thinking. “Okay ma’am, what’s the question?” he asked smoothly and stood up.
The teacher smiled. “Alright, Alex. Can you explain the differences between denotation and connotation in a speech, and give an example of how each affects the listener’s understanding?”
And I was like, hooo haha, thank God the question is so hard! I couldn’t help but smile. I really hoped he wouldn’t be able to answer it.
Alex cleared his throat, smirking like he already knew everything. “Denotation is the literal meaning of a word,” he started confidently. “Connotation is the idea or feeling that the word invokes beyond its literal meaning.”
I couldn’t help but roll my eyes. Okay… that’s basic, but what about the example? I thought, grinning secretly, hoping he’d stumble.
He paused for a moment, tapping his pen. Then, in his smooth, annoying voice, he said, “For example, if I say ‘home,’ the denotation is a place where someone lives, but the connotation can be warmth, comfort, and safety. This affects the listener because they feel emotionally connected to the word.”
I froze for a second. Wait… that’s actually correct?! My jaw tightened. I clenched my fists under the desk, silently cursing that fuckboy.
He turned to the class and smiled sarcastically, clearly enjoying the fact that I was fuming. Ugh… how does he always have to be so perfect?!
Then I noticed the girls in class who had a crush on him were all looking at Alex, blushing.
I groaned and muttered to myself, Ughhh… seriously?!
Then Alex leaned closer and whispered with a smirk, “Are you shocked? You thought I didn’t know the answer?”
I glared at him so hard, I was pretty sure I could burn a hole through his stupid smirk. “Shut up, fuckboy!” I hissed, my face burning red.
He just chuckled, obviously enjoying the fact that I was fuming. I gritted my teeth and muttered under my breath, Ughhh… how does he always have to get under my skin?!
The teacher smiled at me. “Alright, Alexandra, can you answer the question next?”
I straightened in my seat, trying to act calm, though my heart was racing. Finally… my chance to show that fuckboy he’s not the only one who knows this stuff.
I stood up, flipping my notebook closed. “Yes, ma’am,” I said confidently. “Denotation is the literal meaning of a word, while connotation is the idea or feeling that the word suggests beyond its literal meaning. For example, if I say ‘home,’ the denotation is a place where someone lives, but the connotation can be warmth, comfort, and safety. This affects the listener because they feel emotionally connected to the word.”
I glanced at Alex while saying this, and of course, he had that annoying smirk, like he was impressed or worse, like he wanted me to be. I clenched my fists silently. Ughhh… he always has to be so perfect!
The class murmured in surprise, some of the girls whispering about how smart I was. I tried to ignore them and focused on sitting down, proud that I nailed it.
Alex leaned back in his chair, still smirking, and whispered just loud enough for me to hear, “Not bad… I didn’t think you’d actually know.”
I shot him a glare, muttering under my breath, Always trying to one-up me… seriously, fuckboy.
After that happened, our teacher finally dismissed the class.
I let out a deep breath and whispered, “Hayss… thank you, Lord. The first subject is finally done.”
I packed my notebook slowly and muttered to myself, Even though I still want to kill that fuckboy sitting behind me.
I could still feel his presence at the back, like he was waiting to tease me again.
Ugh… why does he always have to exist in the same space as me? I thought, rolling my eyes while fixing my bag.
Just as I was about to stand up and leave for the bathroom, I suddenly heard his voice again behind me.
“Leaving already, nerdy baby?”
I froze for a second.
Great… the devil speaks.
I stopped in my tracks and snapped, “Can you stop calling me ‘nerdy baby’?!” My voice was full of anger and annoyance.
Alex tilted his head, smirking, and teased, “Why? You don’t want me to call you that?”
I glared at him, fists tightening on my bag straps. Ughhh… he always has to push my buttons!
Alex raised an eyebrow, grinning like he knew exactly how frustrated I was. “Not my baby… huh? That’s too bad. I think it suits you,” he teased, clearly enjoying every second of my anger.
I rolled my eyes and I go to the bathroom to calm myself
I locked the bathroom door and leaned against the sink, taking a deep breath. Okay… calm down, Alexandra. You survived the first lesson. You can survive the rest of the day… without letting that fuckboy ruin it.176Please respect copyright.PENANA3AEHCerzye
Just as I started to relax, I heard the faint sound of footsteps outside the door. My heart skipped a beat.
“No way…” I muttered.
A small, teasing voice came from outside. “Need some company, nerdy baby?”
I groaned loudly, banging my hand on the sink. Of course… he’s always following me everywhere!
I spun around, ready to yell, but stopped. There he was, leaning against the wall just outside the bathroom, smirking like he owned the world.
“You’re impossible,” I hissed, trying to hide my flustered face.
“Maybe… but you like it,” he said, grinning.
I opened the bathroom door and glared at him, my face full of anger.
But then… I decided to tease him back. I walked closer, leaning in slightly, and whispered softly, almost like I was flirting, “Yes… I like it. You want to try?”
Alex’s smirk faltered for a moment, and I noticed a tiny flicker of nervousness in his eyes. “Uh… you mean that… really?” he stammered, scratching the back of his neck.
I raised an eyebrow, still smiling teasingly. “Yeah… why? Scared?” I whispered, leaning in just a little closer.
He swallowed hard, trying to hide it, but I couldtotally feel his heartbeat racing. “N-no… not scared…” he muttered, though the slight tremble in his voice betrayed him.
I grinned, enjoying the rare sight of Alex being flustered. Finally… he’s always so perfect, but now… he’s nervous.
We stared at each other for a few seconds, the tension thick in the air. I could almost hear my own heart pounding and I knew his was too.
I left him, trying to act calm, though my heart was still racing. Ugh… he’s always so impossible, I muttered under my breath.
Behind me, I could hear footsteps following. Of course… it was Alex.
“Hey… wait!” he called, jogging to catch up. “You can’t just leave me like that!”
I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms, smirking. “Oh, really? And why not?”
He stopped in front of me, scratching the back of his neck nervously. “Because… I...I didn’t expect you to… you know… do that,” he admitted, clearly flustered.
I stifled a laugh, secretly enjoying that he was actually nervous for once. “Hmph… well, maybe you should pay more attention next time, fuckboy,” I teased, walking past him and feeling confidence.
Alex watched me go, still stunned, like he wasn’t sure if he wanted to be angry or impressed.
I went back to my room and checked my phone. My best friend, Eliza, had replied:
“Oh hi, Allie! I’m so sorry I didn’t reply earlier. I was freaking late and didn’t even use my phone. Right now, we just have to wait for our next teacher. Earlier, we didn’t even do a lesson we just introduced ourselves. How about you? What happened?” she asked, sounding concerned. When I saw her reply, I felt so happy my heart practically skipped a beat. I couldn’t stop smiling because my best friend had finally messaged me.
I quickly typed back, “Ughhh, Eliza… you won’t believe what happened today. That Alex guy ugh, I literally hate him keeps teasing me!
Eliza’s message popped up:176Please respect copyright.PENANAWJVzC3NcXq
“OMG Allie! That Alex guy… he sounds like a total pain! Hahaha. Are you okay? Did he embarrass you or something?”
I giggled as I read her message, my fingers flying over the keyboard. She always knows how to make me feel better.
I replied quickly, “Ughhh, Eliza… you have no idea! He’s always teasing me. First, he called me ‘nerdy baby,’ then he tried to make me nervous in front of the class. I wanted to kill him, but… he’s kind of impossible to ignore .”
I hit send and leaned back, smiling. Somehow, just talking to Eliza made all the frustration melt away well, at least a little.
Just as I was finishing my chat with Eliza, the classroom door opened, and our next teacher walked in.
“Good morning, class,” the teacher said cheerfully. “I hope everyone is ready for today’s lesson.”
I sighed quietly, Here we go again… another lesson. And of course, that fuckboy is still here.
Alex was already smirking at me from his seat, like he knew exactly what I was thinking. I glared at him, silently warning, Don’t even think about teasing me now… I’m not in the mood.
But of course… he did.
He leaned slightly toward me and whispered, just loud enough for me to hear, “Ready for round two, nerdy baby?”
I frowned, thinking, He’s just trying to get revenge on me for what happened earlier…
I narrowed my eyes at him, trying to hide my grin. “Oh, round two, huh?” I whispered back, leaning just a little closer. “You think you can handle me?”
Alex blinked, momentarily caught off guard, before his smirk returned. “Ha… I think I can,” he replied, clearly enjoying the little challenge.
I rolled my eyes dramatically and muttered under my breath, Ughhh… he always thinks he’s so confident. Let’s see how long that lasts.
While the teacher was discussing the lesson, I started to geta little bored I already knew most of this.
I also realized… no one was annoying me or teasing me for once. Perfect… I said happy and great.
I glanced at Alex in the back and noticed him nodding off, actually sleeping.
A mischievous grin spread across my face. Ohhh… I have a great idea.
I leaned a little closer, careful not to make a sound. Alex was snoring softly, completely unaware of the chaos about to come.
I smirked and whispered to myself, Time to have some fun…
Slowly, I reached into my bag and grabbed a tiny piece of paper. I wrote on it:
“Wake up, sleepyhead! Or I’ll tell everyone you’re napping in class 😏”
I tiptoed closer to his desk and, with all the stealth I could muster, slid the note rightonto his lap.
Alex stirred slightly, blinking sleepily. I bit my lip to stop from laughing. Ohhh… this is going to be good.
Alex didn’t even stir. He was still snoring loudly, completely oblivious to the world… and to the little note I had slipped onto his lap.
I couldn’t help it I burst out laughing quietly, trying not to wake the teacher. But of course, my giggles caught the attention of some classmates, and soon everyone was snickering.
The teacher’s head snapped up, eyes narrowing. “Who’s snoring?” he demanded, scanning the classroom.
Almost immediately, every hand shot up all pointing at Alex.
I laughed so hard I nearly fell out of my chair. Ohhh… this is too perfect.
Alex stirred a little, finally blinking his eyes open, only to see the entire class staring at him. His cheeks turned bright red.
The teacher marched toward him, looking both curious and furious. “Alex Joseph Ford! Care to explain why you’re snoring in my class?”
Alex stammered, trying to defend himself, but I couldn’t stop laughing under my breath, secretly thrilled at how perfectly my little prank had worked.
Alex rubbed his eyes, still confused, while the whole class continued laughing. His face turned bright red from embarrassment.
“I–I’m sorry, sir,” he said quickly, sitting up straight in his chair. “I didn’t mean to fall asleep.”
The teacher crossed her arms and sighed. “This is not a place for sleeping, Mr. Ford. If you are tired, maybe you should go to bed earlier next time.”
The class laughed again, and I had to cover my mouth to stop myself from laughing too loudly.
Alex glanced around the room, clearly embarrassed… until his eyes suddenly landed on me.
I tried to act innocent, looking down at my notebook like I was the most serious student in the world.
But then he noticed the small piece of paper on his lap.
He picked it up slowly and read it.
His eyes narrowed.
Then he looked straight at me.
A slow, dangerous smirk appeared on his face.
Oh no.
He knows.
He leaned slightly forward and whispered just loud enough for me to hear, “Very funny, nerdy baby… but don’t worry.”
I felt a tiny chill run down my spine.
“Round three is coming.”
Then the teacher sighed and shook his head. “Alright, Mr. Ford… but before you sit down and disrespect my class, you need to answer my question about this lesson,” he said angrily.
The whole class went quiet.
Alex froze for a moment, clearly not expecting another question. He slowly stood up, rubbing the back of his neck.
“Yes, sir…” he muttered.
I crossed my arms and watched him, trying not to smile. Ohhh this is going to be interesting, I thought.
The teacher looked straight at him and asked, “Can you explain why effective communication is important in everyday life?”
Alex blinked, still a little sleepy from being woken up earlier.
The classroom was silent.
Some of my classmates looked nervous… but me?
I was secretly hoping he would mess it up this time.
I leaned back in my chair, whispering to myself, Come on, fuckboy… let’s see if you can answer this one.
But Alex suddenly straightened his posture and spoke calmly.
“Effective communication is important because it helps people understand each other clearly,” he said. “It prevents misunderstandings, builds relationships, and helps people express their ideas and emotions properly.”
The class became quiet.
Then some of my classmates started whispering, clearly impressed.
My smile slowly disappeared. Wait… he answered that perfectly.
The teacher nodded. “Correct. Very good, Mr. Ford. You may sit down.”
Alex sat back in his chair and turned his head slightly toward me.
That annoying smirk appeared on his face again.
He leaned closer and whispered softly, “Nice try earlier… nerdy baby.”
I clenched my fists and looked away, trying to ignore him.
Ugh… this stupid fuckboy.
But deep inside, I knew something.
This war between us was only just beginning.
