I was reading that one page and it got me thinking..

This is probably the worst advice that I have ever received. Someone said, “kamu harus tetap pikir positif dong. Ga boleh begitu,” and I stopped telling them my stories since then.

Not just bcz I prefer someone who’d respond, “sepak aja jakunnya!!!” or “syerlok, tak kirim santet online” but also bcz I don’t want anyone to tell me to suppress myself. Like WDYM u want me to shrink & fit into the box when I am an entire garden with flowers and pixies flying around?!??!?!!?!?! EeerrRRrrRrrr, nah babe. 🫦

But the real reason is, I’m pretty aware of who I should keep near for the sake of my spiritual wellness. Stress, depression, and negative feelings are NOTHING to be ashamed of. If you think they are, congratulashUn ‼️ You’ve officially failed to get into my ring 1, bye. 👋🏻 Honestly, I know it’s not entirely your fault, since we, especially as Asians, were raised in a society that makes us think that way ( yikes ).

🤮 The outdated formula we were raised on:
Stress / depression / negative feelings = sin, shameful, embarrassing, taboo, lack of intimacy with God, etc..

🥰 The formula I’m living now:
Vulnerability + authenticity = spiritual wellness.

The “lack of intimacy” used to irritate me, by the way. Like, even God Himself in Matthew 26:39 expressed His frustration. It says “Going a little farther, He fell with His face to the ground and prayed, ‘My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me..” He faced the darkness. He felt the fear and the sadness, and He expressed it. So, WHO R WE to tell anyone that negative feelings are “bad”? 🤨 Hun, If Jesus who created emotions didn’t suppress His distress, I am ( as His daughter ) will certainly NOT shrinking mine as well, yUh. #LikeFatherLikeDaugther 💅

Oh and if u don’t mind, I’d like to spell it out in more of a scientific way. Zhan & Ding (2025) in Scientific Reports found that, YES, expressive suppression is ✨ directly ✨ linked to depressive symptoms. Dryman & Heimberg (2018) back this up, showing that burying ur feelings is a one-way ticket to mental health struggles.

Eckhart Tolle says in the The Power of Now said, “Accept - then act. Whatever the present moment contains, accept it as if you had chosen it. Always work with it, never against it. Make it your friend and ally; not your enemy.” This teaches us that it’s really okay to express ur negative emotions. It’s okay to feel mad. It’s okay to feel sad. It’s okay to feel pain. It is: OKAY. 👌🏻 In fact, you have to feel them. You have to face them. Sometimes we avoid feelings to forget them faster, but have u ever heard the phrase, “what you resist, persists.” No, I didn’t say that. Carl Jung did. One of the most famous psychologists, by the way. If u don’t know him, man, idk what you’ve been doing with your life.

AND! There’s a thing called “toxic positivity” by the way. I’m not going to dive deep into it cz I’d end up writing a whole book & I’m only here for social media purposes. Idk.. next time? But u can always google it or chat w ur preferred AI.

So.. u see? Both spirituality & science agree: suppressing ur emotions is a disaster for ur mental health. Next time someone tells u, “pikirannya ga boleh negatif dong” or “ga boleh nangis ah, gitu doang nangis” or something like that, don’t say a thing. Just leave and pray both sides of their pillow will stay warm tonight. 👋🏻
