Chapter 4: A Taste of Happiness
Even though we were miles apart, our happiness never faded.
That day, I decided to teach her something new: how to make pulvoron.
“Okay, first step…” I said gently, guiding her through the recipe as if I were right there beside her.
She listened carefully, following every instruction with such focus. Her little smiles and determined expressions made my heart swell. Even through the screen, I could see how much effort she was putting into it.
There were small mistakes, a bit of mess, and plenty of laughter in between, but she didn’t give up.
When she finally finished and took her first bite, her eyes lit up.
“Ang sarap! ” she exclaimed.
I couldn’t stop smiling.
I wasn’t just proud of the pulvoron. I was proud of her—the way she tried, the way she laughed when things got messy, and the way she poured her whole heart into something so simple.
But she didn’t stop there.
She made another batch.
And this time, she proudly offered some to her mommy.
I remember that moment perfectly.
She handed it over, and her mom took a bite… then smiled.
“Ang sarap nito. Gumamit ka ng skimmed milk? ” she asked.107Please respect copyright.PENANASoYTLjNh5G
“Bigyan kita budget next time. Gawa ka ulit.”
I heard it all through the call, and I couldn’t contain my happiness.
Hearing her mom enjoy something we made together, even from afar, made my heart feel like it would burst. I laughed, I cheered, and I told her how proud I was. And she just giggled, blushing at my excitement.
It was such a simple thing: cooking together, sharing food, celebrating a smile.
Yet somehow, it became one of the happiest memories of my life.
Even after the call ended, I kept replaying that moment in my mind. Her joy. Her mom’s smile. Our shared laughter.
Some memories don’t fade.
Because sometimes, happiness isn’t about grand gestures or big milestones.
Sometimes, it’s found in small victories.107Please respect copyright.PENANAg1T4JWJ9nW
