Chapter XXX: A Geological Enigma
Dr. Aoshima's back in his laboratory again. Nestled deep within the bowels of the earth, is a haven for the extraordinary. It is a place where the boundaries of science and the arcane often blurred, a realm where the laws of nature are tested and stretched to their limits. Here, even after the Starlight Festival, Dr. Aoshima finds himself consumed by a singular obsession, and that would be the dark crystals.
"Hmm, I wonder if I see any difference between this type of rock from any other rocks on earth.", Dr. Aoshima examines the rock.
He adjusts his hand lenses.
"I wonder if it's either a mineral. Might it be igneous, metamorphic, or even sedimentary. Though it can also be possible that it is some type of ruby, or even quartz."
For twelve days, the lab have been his sanctuary. He scarcely leaves, engrossed in his studies of the mysterious stones he'd discovered. Trapped inside a gas chamber to preserve their enigmatic properties, the crystals defy every test he subjects them to. Their malleability, solubility, and magnetism—all declare them abnormal, otherworldly. The readings are inconsistent, the behavior unpredictable. Each test only deepens the mystery.
"I wonder what happens if I illuminate or reflect on it UV Light. And what light should it produce?", he thinks, his forehead wrinkles.
As the twelfth day dawns, a sense of urgency gnaws at Dr. Aoshima. His father's words echo in his mind: "After twelve days, it will disappear." He couldn't let that happen. There is too much left to understand, too many questions unanswered.
Dr. Aoshima immerses himself in a sea of scientific papers and ancient manuscripts, hoping to find a clue, a lead that could unravel the mystery of the dark crystals. His desk is cluttered with notes, diagrams, and data sheets. The lab is dimly lit, the only source of light being the faint glow of the crystal within the gas chamber.
Approaching the gas chamber, he watches as the crystal began to glow. "Fascinating," he murmurs, captivated by its eerie luminescence. He dons his protective gear, instincts honed by years of cautious experimentation kicking in as the crystal's glow intensifies.
The light pulses, erratic and wild, casting shadows that dances across the lab. The air crackles with an unfamiliar energy. Dr. Aoshima's heart races as he reaches for his recorder, intent on capturing this moment of revelation. He speaks into the recorder, his voice steady despite the excitement coursing through him.
"Subject 01, day twelve. Observing an increase in luminescence and energy output. Preparing to—"
But before he could finish, the crystal speaks.
It isn't a language he recognize. The sounds are alien, a series of guttural and melodic tones that seems to bypass his ears and resonate directly within his mind. He feels a chill run down his spine as he strains to understand, to decipher the message hidden within the noise. The tones seem to carry a weight, a significance that is beyond his comprehension.
"What are you trying to tell me?" he whispers, his eyes fixed on the glowing crystal.
Then, without warning, the crystal explodes. The force of the blast rattles the entire underground facility, sending shock waves that knocks Dr. Aoshima off his feet. Alarms blare, and the room filled with smoke and debris. He coughs, scrambling to his feet, eyes stinging as he peers through the haze.
As the smoke clears, the gas chamber stands empty. The crystal have vanished, leaving behind only a faint, shimmering residue. Dr. Aoshima's mind races. Where had it gone? What had it said? He reviews the data, but it offers no answers. The recordings are filled with static, the instruments reading only the chaotic aftermath of the explosion. Frustration gnaws at him, but also an unshakable curiosity. This is no ordinary phenomenon. The crystal's disappearance only deepens the mystery.
Dr. Aoshima knows he couldn't stop now. He has to find out what the crystal was, where it had come from, and what it meant for their world. As he stands amidst the wreckage of his lab, he felt a spark of determination. This is just the beginning. The enigma of the dark crystal is a puzzle he intends to solve, no matter the cost.
Taking a deep breath, Dr. Aoshima begins to clean up the lab. He carefully collects the shimmering residue left behind by the crystal, storing it in a secure container for further analysis. He makes notes of the explosion, the sounds, and the aftermath. This information, although incomplete, is valuable. Every detail matters.
The days that follow are a whirlwind of activity. Dr. Aoshima reaches out to colleagues, shares his findings, and seeks their insights. He pours over ancient texts and consults experts in various fields. Each conversation, each piece of information, brings him a step closer to understanding.
He spends long hours in the library, surrounded by towering stacks of books. The librarian, an elderly man with a keen interest in the supernatural, becomes an unexpected ally. He provides Dr. Aoshima with rare manuscripts and texts that speaks of similar phenomena.
One evening, as Dr. Aoshima is engrossed in a particularly ancient tome, he finds a reference to crystals that matches his own description. The text speaks of stones that are believed to be fragments of a meteorite, carrying within them the essence of another world. These stones, it was said, could communicate with those who possesses them, revealing secrets of the universe.
"Could it be?" Dr. Aoshima thought, his pulse quickening. He reads on, learning that these stones are not just rare, but extremely dangerous. They have the power to warp reality, to open gateways to other dimensions. Those who sought to harness their power often found themselves consumed by it.
Determined to understand more, Dr. Aoshima decides to follow a lead from the text. It mentions a hidden archive located in a remote monastery, a place where monks had dedicated their lives to studying these otherworldly artifacts. With the principal's permission and the necessary preparations, he embarks on a journey to this secluded place.
The trip is arduous, taking him through rugged terrain and remote villages. But his resolve never wavers. Upon reaching the monastery, he is welcomed by the monks, who recognizes the significance of his quest. They lead him to their archive, a vast chamber filled with ancient scrolls and relics.
In the days that follows, Dr. Aoshima immerses himself in the monks' knowledge. He learns about the history of the crystals, their properties, and the legends surrounding them. The monks speak of a prophecy, one that foretells the arrival of a seeker who would unlock the true potential of the stones.
As he delves deeper into the archive, Dr. Aoshima finds references to a ritual, a way to communicate directly with the crystals. The ritual requires a combination of scientific precision and mystical practices, a blend of the rational and the esoteric.
With the monks' guidance, he prepares for the ritual. It is a delicate process, requiring careful alignment of the stars, precise calculations, and the use of specific artifacts. As he stands at the center of the ritual circle, the monks chant in a language that resonates with the very essence of the universe.
The air around him crackles with energy, and Dr. Aoshima felt a deep connection to something far greater than himself. The crystal residue begins to glow, and once again, he hears the alien tones. This time, however, they are clearer, more coherent. He understands.
The crystal speaks of a hidden realm, a place where knowledge and power intertwined. It reveals secrets of the universe, of dimensions beyond human comprehension. Dr. Aoshima listens, his mind expanding with each word, each revelation.
When the ritual ends, he knows his path is clear. He has to return to his lab, to continue his research with this newfound understanding. The journey is far from over, but he is no longer alone. The monks, the knowledge, and the crystals themselves are now part of his quest.
As Dr. Aoshima descends the mountain and makes his way back to the university, he feels a profound sense of purpose. The mystery of the dark crystals is no longer just an enigma to solve; it is a gateway to something far greater. And he is determined to unlock its secrets, no matter the cost.
However, when he looks at the monitor of his car, it is off. And when he tries to tap it on, a strange hooded guy appears on the screen. Alarmed, he uses Condensate: Perforation and somehow he wakes up from his bed. When he looks beside him, a hooded man is there. Without saying a word, and as Dr. Aoshima is ready to attack, the hooded guy vanishes into thin air. Dr. Aoshima then calls Principal Kimura and tells him about what happened.
