The first thing Maddison could cross out was the fact the victim was a normal life-gone-wrong deadbeat . Having had no precious possessions nor any surrounding irregularities within his identity, except the mysterious occasional run-ins with the victims neighborhood loan sharks.
Who's involvement with the victim's death is a big possibility, considering that according to various people related to the victim , the nature of his relationship with the supposed 'Gang' was violent and purely transactional .110Please respect copyright.PENANAtjrljoXRwX
Looking through his files , these run-ins didn't match the usual , "Hey pay up mate !" scenario , then they proceeded to beat him up . The loan sharks themselves aren't the normal untrained ruffians, they were a bit too organized for a meant to be put together bunch of broke people scamming others for money. Maddison let out a sigh , the case only getting more troubling , the more he looked at it . Moving his hands atop the table he reaches for the cup of now warm coffee , bringing it to his lips he takes a sip , only to quickly grimace at the coldness of the drink , instantly spitting it onto one of the files . 110Please respect copyright.PENANAuSxDKlFyWK
" Fuck! " Maddison angrily shouts , his voice only heard by the white walls of his office room , the frustration from the case slowly getting to him . In his anger he shoves a pile of the files atop the table to the floor , ignorant of the small piece of paper that lands onto the floor . 110Please respect copyright.PENANAoHCwrwPQvi
He'd have time to regret that later , however for now he had no care whatsoever about a pile of files , with useless information , some containing statistics ....STATISTICS! of one man's life for Gods sake ! 110Please respect copyright.PENANA18BQaRXjPB
What possibly could one record about another's life in numbers ! 110Please respect copyright.PENANAkxiZlwyqiW
That alone was infuriating enough , now add on the fact that it seems like the case has a few more people's grubby hands in it ,which means the most annoying and irritating part of his job....he's now required to go undercover to either verify multiple peoples involvement or to go scout for more legible and USEFUL information pertaining the case .110Please respect copyright.PENANADEkeMe4eGC
Standing up from his old oak desk . One Maddison acknowledges he should've thrown out long ago as even the slightest weight applied made a noise , which isn't a good thing in his line of business. 110Please respect copyright.PENANAxRGlmuCIgI
" The slightest noise can become the reason I find you dead with a bullet through your hair boy !"
His old instructors words echo , reminding him that death is familiar foe in his line of work , never to far-off to get him .
He'd been a young man , eager to join something that would contribute to the country , anything that could keep him here .
Far from home .
He was young , dumb and stupid , arrogant in his own knowledge . Instructor Williams had been the first man to humble him , making him both insecure and humiliated , however he'd later realize his instructor merely wanted to not have to sign his death certificate .
Maddison wore a deep black trench coat , knee level with a white button-up paired with black high waist pants , fashion supposedly trending these days among London teens , finishing the outfit , he wore his Oxford shoes with black socks . Overall he looked neat but also middle-class . Afterall he needed to look mediocre, he was going 'undercover' in the slums of London.
And you didn't want attention there , especially the type that meant you'd be left naked and dead in a ditch , with a stab wound in your chest . Worse , you'd be food for the stray dogs of the slums to feast on .
So , he really did need to look poor but not poor enough for them to assume their of the same social standing , just enough to safely walk their streets .

Walking down Wilhelm Str. was rather the dull experience, the normal , slow transition of rich estates to the makeshift houses of the slums , the gravel road turning to a sandy foot path carved from the feet of people desperate for a change in life , others to pass time .110Please respect copyright.PENANAfE1mFO1o0y
The rich London air filled of aristocrats wife's exotic perfumes and detergents for laundry taking on the stench of human excrement filled with the oppressive spirit of death and despair .
He continued walking , sparing no glance to the aristocrat , who gave him a disdainful look nor to the dirty man in tattered rags who looked at him as if he'd stepped into his territory , looking at him with a glare so hateful it looked like he'd merely stab him for breathing . 110Please respect copyright.PENANAHZTyLnMjnC
"Territorial dogs never make for good pets , always challenging their master's authority ." Is what he's grandfather said the day he took him out to look for a pet . 110Please respect copyright.PENANATZTnNmFvA4
In an unfortunate turn of events Maddison came to discover he was to be supervised by the infamous senior officer , Louis Clearwater.110Please respect copyright.PENANAC5Jrg48a4n
"Detective , long time no see , taking a walk are we ?" , the doomed imbecile asked , flirtatiously drawling out 'detective' . " Yes, officer , I was until you came." , " Well , it seems you have business in the slums ,seeing as you are going in that direction". I was at loss as to whether I should congratulate him for stating the obvious or simply not respond, I went with the latter.110Please respect copyright.PENANA7vHuDmunn2
"Why yes I am , the case is not solved as yet, remember?" , It wouldn't surprise me if the idiot forgot, he only hears the final report and stamps it in the system as done , Maddison thought bitterly.110Please respect copyright.PENANAOTnn019b4u
" Ah , It seems I had forgotten ! , It must be the god of fate at play , that I see you again , well we better hurry ." , Louis says happily , paying no mind to the fact his company was unappreciated.110Please respect copyright.PENANAaecb3y3q0D
" Well I would appreciate the company , however you're not quite dressed to come along ." , he says feigning pity . " Oh , we're undercover aren't we ! ", Louis says with childlike excitement, a big grin seated on his face .110Please respect copyright.PENANAL50PgIuIcY
"I think I'll pass very well for a poor person ", he says looking down at his attire and assessing it , " My whole outfit today is home clothes , under €15 000 ! " , he states as if normal .110Please respect copyright.PENANAdIVvcJsYxx
The man was oblivious. One , for saying the value of his outfit out loud , which garnered a few looks from the crowd . Two , for saying it's casual wear when he was suited in a navy blue coat , pure gold cuffs and a white undershirt made from silk , pressed by Arabian craftsman and black low waist pants , leather boots exported from China , his sword in its hilt at his waist . 110Please respect copyright.PENANAwC3kgtgA19
Clearly not a home outfit , if anything he looks like he is about to have an audience with the king.110Please respect copyright.PENANAtpTAhD6JGj
"Mr. Clearwater -" 110Please respect copyright.PENANA3MTklO1tfN
" Please , address me as Louis", he says suddenly serious , cutting Maddison off . 110Please respect copyright.PENANA3E1HJuYhGh
"Apologies, but we are not on first name basis ." , I make clear, he's those people who make you think you're friends till push comes to shove .110Please respect copyright.PENANAI0WcuqpUnJ
" It seems I have overstepped your boundaries, I deeply apologize, I just seemed to connect with you so quick ,I grew up quite isolated with my other brothers " , there he goes rambling off and over sharing , however, the isolation part explains why he's so fast to want to connect with people . It's a subconscious reaction , I'm guessing the flirting's a persona he's developed because , people always pay attention to those small compliments or offensive comments , the goal is he gets the attention he wants from whoever is there.110Please respect copyright.PENANAiH9ErHIOU2
That makes him just as easy prey as the people who fold to his words . 110Please respect copyright.PENANAxIOlTwmp7p
Interested and bored , i decide to play along to his pitiful act , so I ask him " How could you possibly grow up isolated with other siblings to keep you company ?" He pauses for a moment as if caught off guard by my question , " My older brothers earned the title Clearwater, I merely inherited it " he says with a chuckle, "That's not funny" I say unconsciously , not even hearing my words .110Please respect copyright.PENANAaCa2BchSE6
He stops laughing and looks at me .110Please respect copyright.PENANArPBvKqbuIV
I usually hate when people get emotional about something and proceed to tell you their unwanted history , yet I find myself , in a way , relating to him .110Please respect copyright.PENANAeJKVBwhkUQ
" It helps you know " , he says in a low voice looking downcast " , "What does?" , I question him , aware my voice softened to match his , " Ripping of the band-aid, It makes people feel better because whether I healed or not isn't a concern , my wounds are entertainment for audiences of upper London" , he explains looking up at the evening sun , and in that moment he reminds me of a painting I had once seen that struck me so deeply , Botticelli's Birth of Venus.110Please respect copyright.PENANAUmDb1Q3eg9
I shake my head to deter my thoughts from going that direction, seeing myself in him isn't good , I made a promise to not remember what i had been before ..110Please respect copyright.PENANAi4k9imJqsY
"I find the idea of that company pleasing now" , I say leaving the question as to whether we are friends open and unanswered.110Please respect copyright.PENANAZ9j2uxYgTa
" Thank you " , he responded In a whisper , as if afraid Maddison's words were glass , fragile and expected to break at the merest sound . 110Please respect copyright.PENANAYtru2C0f82
It was the start of a friendship , one forged by time , tempered by hardship and sharpened by love .
They'd both opened the curtains to one another's opening act , however the ending acts were still far from over , still in the middle of their stories .
Walking in comfortable silence they trudge on to their day's mission .110Please respect copyright.PENANAvYeme4Zfdn
As we walked I was happy to finally get some of the day's mission covered, however the first step I'd taken into the slums of London , I didn't expect to be welcomed with .............a bullet to the shoulder.
