You know when you feel like fodder?
You get a cold feeling that slowly, deliberately climbs up your spine.
You barely feel it, at first.
You dont even notice when it starts.
One day your lying down on your bed, the clock in the corner is ticking past 3:14 am, and you feel it.
Suddenly you can make out the freezing grasp of its claws, digging into your bones. You feel the chill it passing through the marrow. You feel it inch ever so slowly.
Then you begin noticing it every now and then.
When you're with friends, with family, by yourself.
One day it reaches the back of your chest and burrows a hole to your heart.
One day you get marked as prey.
Then the shroud of loneliness creeps up. Then you feel as though you have no one to turn to. Then the people you considered close, look like strangers.
You begin to feel as though you know everything there is to know about them, but they can't ever understand you.
That no one will ever understand you. That your existence is an open secret not a single person in this world cares enough about.
Then the shroud takes its prey. It leads you to the doors of death, making you walk all the way with your own two unsteady feet.
The shroud feasts on your soul till only a husk remains.
Not everyone gets marked as prey by this impossibly heavy blanket.
Some people live most of their lives bathed in light those marked can only ever dream of.
But you'll know if your marked.
It all starts with a feeling climbing up your spine.
