I tried to take quieter breaths, to keep the silence held so faithfully by Elizabeth and the others, I was unsuccessful. The teacher strode over to where I was practicing. Each click of her tar-black heels slow, deliberate, loud.

"Stop that!" She snapped, voice deafening in the silence. For a moment I saw Elizabeth and a few others flinch, fear flickering across their faces, though in the next moment it was replaced with emotionless, robotic looks. I responded with a confused look. What had I done wrong?

"You’re breathing too loudly," she replied as if reading my thoughts. Breathing too loudly. The words rang in my head, echoing over and over. I contemplated arguing back, trying to make it make sense. But I wasn’t stupid, I knew that over here, it would be useless.

At the front of the room there was Isadora, a teacher's pet honestly, always the 'perfect' everything, didn't really have a life other than her perfection. She was dull. The kind of dull who made you wonder if there was a real person under all that polish. There probably wasn't.
