The grand hall shimmered with chandeliers, casting a golden glow over the rows of seated guests. They had gathered to celebrate my latest achievement—a breakthrough project that had already begun making waves. Before stepping onto the stage I said the crucial dialogue.

"Uh, shoot, I forgot my laptop in my room, could I use yours?" My voice was low, but just loud enough to barely be heard over the buzz of voices.
Leon, seated in the front row, hesitated for a fraction of a second before handing me the sleek device. “Don’t mess with my files,” he joked, his tone light but his eyes cautious.

“Anything else, Sir?” I replied with a laugh, plugging the laptop into the projector. The screen lit up behind me, revealing Leon’s desktop, neat and pristine.

I opened Gmail, having the inauthentic intentoin to swith accounts. Its most recent email notification stood loud and proud: Funds transferred from Savings account—Confermation email.

I looked back at my brother sitting white faced in the front row. Now for the easy part– manipulating the audience.

I let tears fill up my eyes, "Leon, how- how could you?" Before he could give any sort of response I ran out of the ballroom, face in my hands, leaving him to deal with the manipulated audience.

I ran up the stairs to my room locking it. Sure enough, a few minutes later I heard some light knocking. I had already decided that I would pretend that it was his fault even when we were alone, just in case he got any ideas.

"What?" I succeeded in making my voice sound as if I had been crying.
"Miss Elara, Sir Leon would like you to come out, please."
I opened the door to see a rather flustered looking Maria.
"I just– need a moment to myself,"
"Understandable, I'll tell him that"

I closed the door and wasted no time in plotting my next move. It would take him approximately 10 minutes in getting the guests out and away.

I went to my bathroom, facing the mirror. I had put on some eyeliner and mascara, getting some charcoal powder I smeared it over my face. Putting the mascara outright would be a mistake, a rather expensive, stupid mistake.

Then I washed the charcoal powder off my face, leaving a distinct smudge, which I would wash completely off when Leon would come inside my room. Next I brought some smelling salts to my eyes making them look red and puffy.

Now that that was out of the way I took out a spray bottle from one of the overhead cabinets and sprayed some water on my face.

I also sprayed a bit onto my lilac flower pillow case and flopped onto my bed, face down. The entire procedure took 8 minutes and 58 seconds. I have exactly 64 seconds till Leon will barge into my room giving his explanation.

I start to fake sob, it would make it seem more believable.

Leon barged into my room without even waiting to knock.
"What else do you want?" I accused, sitting up.
"Elara, I-I promise you I didn't make that transaction," His voice was soft but implied.

"The evidence is right there Leon, the email , your reply saying that Yes it was you who made that transaction," I sniffed, a single tear sliding down my cheek, "I thought I could trust you, guess I thought wrong." I turned away, arms crossed.

"Please, just get out of my room," I kept my voice low but stern nontheless.
"Elara,"
"Get out."
"Fine,"

He sighed and trudged out of the room. I wasted no time in getting up and plotting. The literal moment he gets even the smallest of ideas his move must be blocked defensively, and the counterattack given immediately. This was going to be one long game of chess.
