在狂風暴雪中，一位衣裝單薄的少年正在奔跑。 他所奔跑的方向，前方依然只有一望無際的白雪。 很久以前，他的父親經常和他講述關於火焰的事情，但少年在這一生中從來都沒有感受過火焰的溫暖。 於是他想像著火焰可能的感受，然後看著遠方空無一物的寒天雪地，他豁出去了，竭盡所能的奔跑，到了最後，即使腳步變得如灌鉛般沉重，他還是拖著疲憊的腿走著，而在生命的尾聲，他依然沒有見到想像中的火焰，後人發現了如何升起火焰，並將少年的故事當作笑話。
