Respected Capt. Shukla,
In view of recent developments arising during relief efforts, I would appreciate a brief and informal interaction with you in person.
This is in regard to certain inputs received about misconduct between the army and the medical department. Which require clarification to ensure understanding between both departments.
You are requested to report to the office of the superintendent of police of Kendrapara district by 4:00 pm on 24th May 2025. Preferably accompanied by Dr. Jahnvi Sharma. No written clarification is required at this stage. This matter will be handled on a precautionary basis.
I trust a short exchange will help us maintain favorable relations and prevent future complications. Do consider it as a friendly gesture.

As Aditya was reading the letter, he could grasp the undertone of passive threat.
It had the energy of, I want you to know that something's wrong. Meet me personally; later I'll decide whether to save you or scrape you.

When Aarav said, 'Aditya...?'
It took him a second to respond. He was trying to recall what this could be. He, out of all the people, had tried his best to stay within rules and regulations. Where did things get loose?

When he mentioned the possibility of an audit to Aarav, he could see him turn visibly pale. But he did not question anything then and did what he had asked him to do.

As Aarav went out to prepare for patrolling,. He was left alone in that damp, dark room.

Things like this. They are not just a random incident for people like them. People in uniform have to be cautious of each and every interaction they have with civil law enforcement authorities. On the surface any breach of law by them might be covered under the umbrella of we will handle it. Hand it over to the military, and we will see it under military court. But he knew the aftermath of it. Even if his name is cleared.
• He will have a negative entry in his Annual Confidential Report.
• Promotion will be delayed and may never come.
• Inquiry about disobedience
• Branded as 'problematic with civil coordination.'
And he was not alone. His whole unit, every man and woman under him, will face the consequences.

What's worse? Dr. Jahnvi Sharma. The misunderstanding that happened between them the day before yesterday—is this related to that? And did she really go out of her way to report him to the police official?
He could sense rage building in him.
His thoughts became venomous.
HOW ON THIS EARTH CAN THIS WOMAN CREATE A FUSS WITHOUT KNOWING PROTOCOLS? THEN GO OUT OF HER WAY TO INFORM THE POLICE.
Is she aware of the fire she is playing with?
He, Captain Aditya Shukla, son of Brigadier (rtd.) Rajiv Kumar Shukla, of all the people, will be involved in a military interrogation. Did she know the name, the legacy behind his name she was about to ruin? Was she this naive? Only if she were a cross-border insurgent would he have killed her. Not with bullets, with his bare hand.
He has bled for this uniform. Sacrificed everything for it.
He never imagined the first scare on it would come from a woman.
Woman. Always a woman.
From breaking his trust to now breaking his reputation.
It. Is. Always. By. A. Damn. Woman.

He could feel the anger building in him. By the time Aarav called him from the patrolling jeep, he was breathing deeply and heavily. His eyes were red with anger. His jaw clenched and his nails dug into his palm, leaving blood-stained marks.

He tried to regain composure before heading out.

To someone outside, he would look normal, as if nothing had happened. He could not let people under him have fear of a possible stain on their reputation. He tried to ignore them.

People unaware of this latest update looked at him with curiosity; they were ready with banters to tease him based on Thapa's information. But he covered the distance between him and the main entrance as soon as he could.
----
Aarav decided to drive the jeep himself, asking the soldier in the driver's seat to go take some rest.
Aditya got on the jeep, and Aarav drove.
For the first few minutes none of them spoke anything.
Then Aarav cleared his throat, "Aditya, at least the basic information. I need to know where things went wrong." He said in a monotonous voice.

"Someone created a fuss about that IV incident with that doctor. Possible FIR. No mention of what the exact situation is, but I'm guessing the worst possible scenario."

Aarav's eyes widened, and his leg hit the brake.
"For real. This is no good news, Adi. What are we supposed to do now?"
163Please respect copyright.PENANANmIuJuB5Sh
"The SP asked me to meet him personally. Let's see where things go. The letter is quite ambiguous to understand the exact situation." Aditya said with eyes closed and head resting on the jeep's seat.

"Who could go to this extent? Are they stupid, or are they traitors?"

"Dr. Jahnvi Sharma," he said, stressing certain syllables to let out the anger he had through his voice.
163Please respect copyright.PENANAZbCa7HnWfZ
"Dr. Who?"
163Please respect copyright.PENANAgpHwZ7ha0S
"Dr. Jahnvi Sharma, that doctor with whom I had this exchange."
163Please respect copyright.PENANAKJ5rzF1Srf
"Why on this earth will she do something so stupid?" It made no sense to Aarav.
163Please respect copyright.PENANAOkButdJS6z
"Give it a thought, Aarav. She came running for something. We did not allow her. She is not used to being denied anything in an emergency. This bruised her ego. She accused me of being the cause of the delay. She, of all the people present there, could be the only one to do so." Aditya tried to maintain his composure, but you could sense the anger behind his words.

"What you said just now does sound logical but not convincing enough. Nevertheless, meet that SP and see how deep this is. And by that time, let's not break this news to others." Aarav expressed his concern.
"Yeah, I was thinking the same."
Aditya opened his eyes and gazed outside the window to distract himself.
