Mountaintop • Bai Family Mansion
On Christmas Eve, Long’er sat on the balcony, cradling her three-month-old daughter, admiring the world-famous cityscape of this small town.
It was winter. To allow his still-weak wife to enjoy the view without catching a chill, Bai Shikun had one side of the large balcony converted into a glass room.
“Xing Jun, I’m sorry. I told you a little lie.”
The young woman held her baby in one arm, gently patting her with the other, looking down at her own flesh and blood with a bitter, apologetic smile. “I once said you would be a man again in this life, but... because in your past life you toyed with women’s feelings, in this life you must endure the pains of love as a daughter. There’s nothing I can do about it.”
The baby girl in her arms was like a pink dumpling, her little face chubby and rosy. Of course, she could not understand what her mother was saying, nor could she know what fate awaited her in the future. She simply saw her mother smiling, so she smiled too, even letting out an adorable giggle.
Long’er was delighted to see this. She hugged her child a little tighter and said softly, “But don’t be afraid. As your mother, I will walk this path with you. You will learn strength through hardship, so you can face destiny with the same calm dignity as your father.”
It was known throughout the city that Long’er—a girl of eighteen or nineteen—was the third wife of Mr. Bai, and had given the seventy-something elder a precious little daughter.

Curiously, ever since Bai Shikun had this daughter, the Bai Corporation began to turn around. The situation seemed to ease, business became much easier, and the government’s attitude toward the Bai family noticeably softened, showing goodwill.
On his daughter’s first birthday, Bai Shikun was awarded the highest honor by the government, in recognition of the Bai family’s long-standing contributions to the town.

His eldest son Shaozu did indeed divorce his wife, but the mistress who had once dedicated countless golden roses to the “Saintess” Wang Rong ultimately failed to marry into the Bai family, soon became involved in rumors with another minor businessman, and eventually faded into obscurity.
Bai Shaozu rejected the mistress and quietly remarried his long-time secretary. But that’s another story.

The second son, Shaojun, was sidelined in the field of medical research after an academic fraud scandal, and eventually settled down as a competent doctor.
The third son, Shaohua, liquidated his company and left the investment world, switching to new media, a field better suited to his personality, in which he did quite well.

With the Bai family scandals behind them, and with a beloved wife and daughter at his side, the old Mr. Bai seemed more spirited than ever. The media even remarked that, nourished by love, he looked years younger than before.
The public marveled at the Bai family’s reversal of fortune, unanimously believing that the young daughter was a “star of fortune” born into the world. They forgot that her mother had once been seen as the Bai family’s ill omen.
Thus, Long’er naturally became the new president of the Holy Mother Society.

Three Years Later
“JUDY, the Madonna Society will be in your hands from now on!”
At their parting, Long’er held Judy’s hands sincerely.
Judy looked at Long’er, thinking that while Wang Rong had been a rare beauty, Long’er easily surpassed her in both looks and grace.
No wonder Mr. Bai had fallen for her at first sight, choosing beauty over power...
Judy sighed inwardly.
After Wang Rong’s death, Judy was promoted by Mr. Bai to serve as vice president of the Madonna Society, handling all major and minor affairs. When Long’er took over as president, she set the goal of returning to serve the old, impoverished districts, but left daily operations to Judy.
Not long after Long’er gave birth, Bai Shikun began to arrange the division of family assets. The eldest son, Shaozu, took over the Bai Corporation and family trust, while the remaining assets were fairly distributed among the three sons. Lawyers were hired to ensure the trust’s assets were locked and allocated, preventing future disputes.

After all was settled, he took a portion of his wealth—more than enough for several lifetimes—and left with his wife and daughter to live in seclusion elsewhere.
Regarding this astonishing decision, Bai Shikun simply told the world: Life is short, and as an old man, he wanted to spend every day with his beloved wife, free from the burdens of worldly affairs.
Thus, Judy naturally succeeded Long’er as the new president of the Holy Mother Society.
“Mrs. Bai, thank you for your trust. I will do my utmost to carry the Madonna Society forward!” Judy’s eyes brimmed with tears, her sincerity evident.
She was indeed grateful to Mr. Bai and this Mrs. Bai.
Previously, when Wang Rong was president, Judy was only her personal assistant. Mr. Bai, however, appointed her vice president, with a huge salary increase and ample freedom to run the Holy Mother Society, which, thanks to the “Wang Rong phenomenon,” became immensely successful, bringing her considerable profit as well.
Now, she was very glad she had burned the letter revealing Wang Rong’s background, rather than using it to threaten or manipulate Bai Shikun.
Upon hearing this, Long’er didn’t reply immediately. Instead, she gazed at Judy with a meaningful smile, making Judy somewhat uneasy.
Just as Judy was about to speak to break the awkwardness, Long’er gently patted her arm. “No need to be so solemn. Just follow your conscience in your work.” With that, she turned and gracefully left.

And so, the Bai family of three left the eastern city.
Rumor had it that they bought a large estate in North America and settled there, but the news was unconfirmed. Some curious reporters tried to trace their whereabouts but found nothing. The three Bai sons kept silent, and over the years, people gradually stopped asking.
Thus, this once-powerful figure on the world business stage truly faded from public view with the passing of time.
